Colorado-Stanford Quotes

January 09, 2008 | Men's Basketball

CU Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik

GENERAL - “We need to operate on all cylinders and we're not. We have some tentativeness in terms of playing not to lose instead of playing to win. We're also tentative around the rim, finishing and defensively when we want to be disruptive. We're too cautious and we're not playing fearless. We missed some layups and free throws. We need to be on the top of our game on every possession because we're undersized and not very deep. We look kind of like a deer in the headlights.”

ON REBOUNDING DIFFERNTIAL - “In the first half we were pretty even. (Taj) Finger got four offensive rebounds in the second half. It wasn't very pretty.”

ON PROGESS LEVEL - “It seems like every game we have layups and no matter what system you have, if you don't make layups you won't make your jump shots. Players make the offense, the offense does not make the player. You have to be able to shoot the ball and make good decisions. Going to the rim, we dress a couple offensive fouls. We need to drive to the rim, but we need to be under control and make plays.”

Stanford Head Coach Trent Johnson

GENERAL -
“They are the best team we've played so far on our schedule. We knew going into this game that they were a team that is playing well. Anytime you can win, it's a good trip. I was pleased with the way we played for the most part.”

ON SECOND HALF PLAY - “We did a good job defensively in the second half. I was pleased with the energy in the second half. Some balls and some plays came our way.“

ON RICHARD ROBY - “He's a good player. Roby and Hall are the guys you have to watch.”

Colorado Players

Freshman Guard Cory Higgins

GENERAL - “When things got tough we stopped playing as a team.”

ON SECOND HALF - “I don't think we came out with the same energy in the second half.  In the first half everyone was on the boards.  In the second half we didn't play good team defense.”

Senior Guard Marcus Hall
GENERAL - “I guess we as a team need to find something to make us more hungry.”

ON SECOND HALF - “We just let up as a team in the second half.  We played soft.”

ON SIZE & CONFERENCE - “We showed we were capable of rebounding with this team.  The defecit was two at halftime.  We are going to have to make our mark on defense to compete in the Big 12.”

ON IF STANFORD MADE A SECOND HALF ADJUSTMENT? “No, it was ourselves.”
