NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Colorado volleyball team was shut out by the Oklahoma Sooners in three games on Wednesday night. Game scores were 15-25, 21-25 and 15-25.

 

The loss puts CU at 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12. Oklahoma improved to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the Big 12.

 

Alex Buth led the Buffs with 11 kills. Schylur Edelman added four kills and two block assists. Lauren Schaefer recorded three kills and CU's only solo block. The Buffs hit .053 for the match while Oklahoma hit .211.

 

Ashley VenHorst tallied a team-high 10 digs and Kaitlyn Burkett recorded six. Ellen Henry added four digs. The Buffs had a total of 31 in the effort. Burkett also tallied 19 of CU's 22 total assists.

 

Despite losing the first set, the Buffs came out strong in the second set. A four point run capped by a kill from Burkett put the score at 7-4 and the Buffs continued to hold the lead until Oklahoma took over at 12-11. Colorado kept it close and managed to tie the score seven total times during the second set. However, the Sooners pulled ahead and won.

 

Colorado had 3.0 team blocks compared to Oklahoma's 9.0. The Sooners also came out on top with 37 kills, compared to CU's 25. 

 

The Buffs will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they take on Iowa State. The match time is set for 1 p.m. There will be free admission for fans that show their CU football ticket for the game against Kansas State at 5 p.m. later the same day.
