COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Missouri Tigers here Friday, for just its second loss of the season and first in Big 12 play.
With the loss, Colorado falls to 8-2-2, 2-1-1 Big 12 while Missouri improves to 7-3-0, 2-1-0 Big 12.
The Buffaloes fell behind early in the game, as the Tigers got on the board just 1:46 into the first half. Forward Kristin Andrighetto one-timed a pass from Alysha Bonnick for her fourth goal of the season to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead.
Colorado has been no stranger to come from behind wins, as they lay claim to two already this season, however the Buffs knew that they had to step it up in order to take control of the game.
The Tigers nearly struck again the fifth minute as Meghan Pfeiffer headed a ball toward the CU goal, which was initially saved, but she followed it up with another shot and Colorado goalkeeper Kirstin Radlinski denied the second attempt.
The Buffaloes wrapped up the first half trailing the Tigers 10 to five in shots and CU managed only two shots on goal to MU's four.
In the 63rd minute of the match, the Buffs committed a foul inside the box, awarding the Tigers a penalty shot and the opportunity to increase their lead. Andrighetto stepped up to take the kick and CU's Radlinski made the diving save to her right, keeping the Buffs down just one goal with 25 minute left to play in the game.
Colorado was unable to find the back of the net and Missouri wrapped up the game outshooting CU 23-9. This marks the first time this season that the Buffs have been out-shot by an opponent. CU's Nikki Marshall led the Colorado with three shots, all of which came in the first half. Radlinski picked up five saves in the game, the second-most saves that she has tallied this season.
The Buffs will now travel to Lawrence, Kan. where they take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday, Oct. 5 at noon. Kansas is coming off of a 2-0 victory against Texas Tech.
