Vaiomounga Dismissed From Football Team
November 18, 2008 | Football
BOULDER - University of Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn and head football coach Dan Hawkins jointly announced Tuesday that sophomore outside linebacker Nate Vaiomounga has been dismissed from the football team.
Vaiomounga, who is academically ineligible and is thus sitting out the 2008 season, was removed from the squad for violating team rules.
"We have been consistent in showing no tolerance for poor decision making," Hawkins said. "We constantly tell these young men that once is a mistake, twice is a behavior. They know they are representatives of the university, role models to many, and even ambassadors of their own families. Don't do anything that would embarrass your parents, do those things that will make them proud."
As per school policy, no student-athlete can be dismissed from a program unless the athletic director approves of the move, which Bohn did.
"We remain vigilant in our efforts to maintain our high standards for the entire institution associated with the behavior of our student-athletes both on and off the playing field," Bohn said. "Our position and responses will remain swift and firm."
This is unrelated to the thefts of personal items from their lockers reported by five players during CU's game last Saturday night against Oklahoma State. CU police are still is the midst of conducting their investigation.
