Colorado-Oklahoma State Notes

November 20, 2009 | Football

QUICKLY    Colorado is now 3-8, 2-5 in the Big 12 and will close out the season the Friday after Thanksgiving against Nebraska (Nov. 27, 1:30 p.m.) ... First Career Starts: WR Andre Simmons ...  Tyler Ahles started at OLB for B.J. Beatty, who was scratched from the travel squad Wednesday afternoon (concussion); ILB Jeff Smart traveled but did not play (pinched nerve); Shaun Mohler started in his place, his second start of the year (also started the opener versus CSU) ... DE Conrad Obi, who has been playing on the FG/PAT Defense unit, recorded the first block of his career (FG) and CU's fourth of the season ... Colorado did not have a sack for the first game this season ...  At one point, OSU had run 23 plays for 53 yards in CU territory, but its next three after that all went for touchdowns (45, 47 and 28 yards) ... P Matt DiLallo had 10 punts in the game, his and the team's most since punting 11 times at Missouri in 2007.

QB SWITCH Cody Hawkins filled in for Tyler Hansen for three drives in the first half while Hansen had his hand X-rayed (negative).  Hawkins led the Buffs to a fifth score in the seven times he has engineered the 2-minute drill this season, leading CU to a late first half TD.
QB Snaps/Yards:  Hansen 58-186, Hawkins 13-65.

TB BRIAN LOCKRIDGE His kickoff return (98 yards) for a touchdown was CU's first KOR for a score since Aug. 31, 2008 (Josh Smith, 93 yards against Kansas State).  It ties for the 10th longest in school history:

THREE & OUTS  Colorado came into the games among the national leaders in forcing "three-and-outs," when the opponent is held to three plays then punting (or less if forcing a turnover or if stopped on fourth down without earning a first).   The Buff defense forced six more today, upping the season total to 50 through 11 games (CU entered tied for 14th in the nation).

WR MARKQUES SIMAS (11-90-1 TD) tied two school records tonight: the 11 receptions for the most in a single game, and catching at least seven passes in three consecutive games.  He missed by 10 yards (actually 8 with correct spots by the stat crew) of a third straight 100-yard game.

Most Receptions, Game-11, Markques Simas (tied record by Michael Westbrook vs. Baylor at Waco, Sept. 12, 1992; Charles E. Johnson vs. Missouri at Columbia, Oct. 8, 1992; Derek McCoy vs. Washington State in Boulder, Sept. 13, 2003; Scotty McKnight at Toledo, Sept. 11, 2009).

Most Consecutive Games With Seven or More Receptions-3, Markques Simas, Nov. 7-19, 2009 (tied record by Michael Westbrook, Sept. 5 to Sept. 19, 1992, and Nov. 7 to Nov. 21, 1992; Charles E. Johnson, Oct. 8 to Oct. 24, 1992; D.J. Hackett, Oct. 11 to Oct. 25, 2003.

WR SCOTTY McKNIGHT (7-71-1 TD) extended his school record for the most consecutive games catching at least one pass to 35 games (36 including postseason; CU doesn't count bowls in school records). He moved into second place at CU in all-time receptions with 158, passing Phil Savoy (152, 1994-97).  He has 69 catches this season, the third most for a single year at CU, trailing D.J. Hackett (78, 2003) and Michael Westbrook (76, 1992.

COLORADO INJURIES  QB Tyler Hansen (bruised thumb, full go for Nebraska); C Keenan Stevens (sprained ankle, probable);  TB Rodney Stewart (shoulder bruise, probable).  Older injuries: ILB Jeff Smart (pinched nerve, probable); OLB B.J. Beatty (concussion, probable).
