Colorado, Colorado State Quotes
December 11, 2009 | Men's Basketball
Opening Statement
"We were selfish, we lacked toughness, and we weren't very poised. What we can take from this is to learn and understand why we got our butt whooped. When you look at our offense, we lack discipline to run our stuff hard and right. We're selfish because we knew that when we drove the ball they would collapse and we'd need to kick and kick multiple times and when we did we manufactured open shots, but we did that only a handful of times. We lacked toughness because they took the ball right out of our hands two or three times and there were some balls that they dove on it but we reached for it. And toughness again on the boards, where they got 12 offensive rebounds and got some easy put-backs. We dug ourselves a hole because of those four things I spoke of, and you add up those four things and it adds up to a butt whooping."
On if Colorado realized how much this game meant to Colorado State
"It was discussed and they should know. We talked about it, if you can't get excited to do this, then you don't have a pulse."
On Colorado State's defense
"We got in there, but they collapse so much that you just need to kick it. When we did, you manufacture open looks within the flow of the offense, but we didn't do that. I thought we were very selfish and undisciplined. For whatever reason, I don't know, but it showed up tonight."
On Alec Burks
"He had some opportunities there where I thought he tried to do a little too much. I thought everybody did, and when we got behind, they're not selfish, but more 'let me be the one to rescue us' and it then gets worse."
On Cory Higgins' off-night shooting
"It was probably a combination that we didn't manufacture the shots we normally do in our offense because we didn't run it hard and right and make extra passes. Two, you gain confidence by getting those shots you normally get in the flow of the offense, but we had no flow to the offense."
On his pre-season expectations of the team through ten games
"I was hoping for some more wins."
On what to focus on before the next game
"First of all, we just need to get through final exams. I'm not making excuses, but we had a player, one of our starters, that took an exam at 2:30 this afternoon. We've had papers due and finals, and even at Oregon State, we brought a tutor there. I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying right now (they need to get through final exams). No practice for the next two days and finals start Saturday. They just need to get that over with, and then let's get our energy back and get back to work, get that behind us. Right now, we got too much going on."
