Cowboys Shoot Down Buffs, 76-55

February 25, 2009 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – Sophomore guard Levi Knutson scored a career-high 19 points and redshirt-sophomore Casey Crawford added 14, however the University of Colorado men's basketball fell victim to 13 three-pointers by Oklahoma State, falling 76-55, Wednesday night at the Coors Events Conference Center.

The Cowboys (18-9, 7-6) made a season Big 12 high nine first half treys to open a 43-31 advantage after the break, then cruising to the 21-point victory. OSU shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the field, led by James Anderson's double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds. Anderson's 30 points were the most scored against CU this season.

The Cowboys dominated CU on the boards with a 38-23 advantage as Marshall Moses and Byron Eaton grabbed nine rebounds apiece.

Crawford and Knutson made all of Colorado's seven three-pointers, tallying four and three, respectively. Sophomore Cory Higgins scored nine points and senior Jermyl Jackson-Wilson chipped in six points and four rebounds for the Buffs (9-18, 1-12).

Sophomore Javon Coney grabbed a career-high six rebounds and started his first career game in place of Nate Tomlinson, who sat out the entire game after sustaining a concussion in last Saturday's loss to nationally ranked Missouri.

Tomlinson is day-to-day and his return to the starting lineup is unknown.

For the first time this season, the CU bench out-scored the starters 38-17.

Oklahoma State took a 10-point lead at 21-11 midway through the first half. Colorado made a run of its own, cutting the lead to one on a Knutson jumper with 4:37 before halftime. However, the Cowboys took a 12-point advantage into the lockerroom.

With 5:54 remaining, OSU's Marshall Moses hit a layup to start an 11-0 run for the Cowboys, capped by two free throw shots from Byron Eaton. Oklahoma State saw balanced scoring as Keiton Page added 12 points and Terrel Harris added 10.

The Buffs committed only eight turnovers, the sixth time this season they turned the ball over in single-digits. OSU's 13 three-pointers were the most by a Cowboys' team against CU since making the same number in Boulder on Jan. 30, 2005.

Colorado will take to the road to face Baylor (16-11, 4-9) on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on the Big 12 Network (Altitude Sports & Entertainment).
