Colorado-Iowa State Notes

February 07, 2009 | Women's Basketball

Iowa State wins its fifth straight game in this series and second straight in Boulder, but Colorado continues to lead the overall series 36-26.

Colorado drops to 0-6 against ranked teams this season and is 3-10 over the past two seasons. The Buffaloes drop to 2-11 against Iowa State when the Cyclones are ranked.

The 100 points scored in the game is the lowest combined total between the two teams in games played in Boulder. The previous low was 108 in a 79-29 CU win on Feb. 19, 1993. It's the second lowest overall total in the series, trailing only the 95 points scored in a 56-39 CU win in the 1997 Big 12 Championship Tournament.

Colorado's 47 points are its lowest at home since a 54-44 loss to Nebraska on February 10, 2004. CU's 22 first-half points were a season low at home and its 9-point deficit (31-22) was the largest at home this season.

Colorado out shot Iowa State by 0.6%, marking just the third time in 12 games where CU has lost when ending with a better field goal percentage than its opponent.

The Buffaloes had just two made free throws, their lowest total at home since the 1978-79 season when such records became available. The six attempts are the fewest taken by CU at home since a 5-for-5 night against Pennsylvania on Nov. 26, 2004. CU's two free throws tied a season low, matching the output at Oklahoma State on Jan. 14 (2-for-9 at OSU). The six attempts were also a season low.

Sophomore guard Brittany Spears finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her 13th career double-double. It's her sixth of the season and third during Big 12 play. Her five assists was a season high.

Senior guard Hannah Skildum scored six points off the bench, a Big 12 season high for her. In fact she had just five points in her seven previous Big 12 games. She was 2-of-4 from 3-point range, her first 3-pointers of the year. She had been just 0-of-6 from downtown prior to today's game.

Freshman Alyssa Fressle had 10 points scoring in double digits for the fourth time in the last seven games.
