In other CU sports action Friday, the women's soccer team (No. 20 in the nation) beat Utah, 2-1; women's volleyball beat Denver 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-20) and then lost 3-0 to #24 San Diego State (24-26, 21-25, 16-25); and the men's golf team stood tied for seventh place after two rounds of the UNM Tucker Invitational.
INDIVIDUAL RECORDS A number of individual records were broken or tied tonight:
Most Receptions, Game-11, Scotty McKnight (tied record by Michael Westbrook vs. Baylor at Waco, Sept. 12, 1992; Charles E. Johnson vs. Missouri at Columbia, Oct. 8, 1992; Derek McCoy vs. Washington State in Boulder, Sept. 13, 2003).
Most Passing Attempts, Game-64, Cody Hawkins (record; old mark, Joel Klatt vs. Kansas in Boulder, Oct. 11, 2003).
Most Kickoff Returns, Game-8, Darrell Scott (tied record by Walter Stanley vs. Nebraska at Lincoln)
Most Kickoff Return Yards, Game-204, Darrell Scott (record; old mark by Josh Smith, 193 vs. Nebraska, Nov. 28, 2008).
WR SCOTTY MCKNIGHT (11-114, 1 TD) has now caught a pass in 26 consecutive games, one shy of the school regular season record of 27, set by Charles E. Johnson between 1991 and 1993 (including the 2007 Independence Bowl, McKnight has caught a pass in every collegiate game he has played; Johnson's streak including bowls was 29; CU is one of a handful of schools that does not include bowl stats for such records). He is also 21st all-time in receiving yards at CU (1,157); he vaulted five players into 16th tonight, passing Dave Hestera (20th, 1,057); Christian Fauria (19th, 1,058); Patrick Williams (18th, 1,070), Dave Logan (17th, 1,078) and Loy Alexander (16th, 1,107); he also jumped four players and is tied for ninth in all-time receptions with 104.
WR JASON ESPINOZA (8-109, 1 TD) Espinoza went over 100 yards before McKnight and is officially credited with the 100th 100-yard receiving game in school history. He had career highs in all three categories. When McKnight joined him, it marked the first time CU had two 100-yard receivers in the same game since Oct. 4, 2003 at Baylor (Derek McCoy 6-171, D.J. Hackett 4-143).
QB CODY HAWKINS (64-30-3, 356, 4 TD) He moved into second place all-time at Colorado in attempts (848), passing Kordell Stewart (785; Joel Klatt owns the record with 1,095 from 2002-05). He also passed Stewart into second in all-time completions (486; Stewart had 456, Klatt leads with 666). With 4 TD passes, has 41 career and passed Koy Detmer (40, 1992-96; again, Klatt leads with 44). Hawkins set single game highs in attempts and yards and tied his top numbers for touchdowns and interceptions.
ILB JEFF SMART (4 UT, 4 AT-8 TOT) He upped his career total to 215 (prior to coaches review for CU official numbers), tying him for 51st all-time on CU's career list.
TB DARRELL SCOTT (12-85, 0 TD; 1-1 RECEIVING; 8-204 KOR; 290 ALL-PURPOSE) The 290 all-purpose yards were the fourth most in CU history on the strength of his record 204 kickoff return yards.
