Colorado-Kansas State Notes
January 21, 2010 | Women's Basketball
Colorado improves to 12-5 overall, 2-2 in Big 12 play. The 12 wins surpasses CU's win total for 2008-09 (11-18) and the Buffs are just one shy of their Big 12 win total from last year (3-13).
Colorado claims its first road win of the season and snaps an eight-game road losing streak dating back to a 61-56 win at Missouri on Jan. 24, 2009.
With the win Colorado takes over the all-time series lead from Kansas State at 33-32. Buffaloes snap a three game losing streak to the Wildcats and win for the fourth time in the last 16 meetings.
Colorado's 30-25 advantage at the break was its first halftime lead on the road in Big 12 play since Jan. 9, 2008 at Missouri. CU led 28-23 and eventually won 70-50. The advantage was CU's first halftime lead at Kansas State since Feb. 14, 2007. The Buffs led that game 28-26 before edging out a 60-58 win.
Kansas State entered the game as the No. 1 3-point percentage team in the country (.420). Colorado held the Wildcats to just 4-of-18 from downtown (.222).
Bianca Smith was 3-of-8 from 3-point range, moving into second place on CU's all-time list for 3-pointers made with 226. She passed Mandy Nightingale who had 224 from 1998-02. Smith now stands just 26 short of Shelley Sheetz's (1992-95) all-time record of 252.
Smith finished with 13 points moving closer to the 1,000 point club. Smith has 990 in her career and needs just 10 more to become the 23rd player in team history to reach 1,000.
Brittany Spears scored 15 points becoming the 15th player in team history to reach 1,300 career points. She now has 1,307 in 80 career games (16.3 ppg)
Chucky Jeffery had 13 points, her fourth double-digit scoring effort in the last five games (13.2 ppg).
Meagan Malcolm-Peck had made just 7-of-16 free throws on the season before sinking both tonight, her only points of the game, and coming with 17 seconds left to give CU a four-point lead at 61-57.
