Colorado, Yale Notes
January 04, 2010 | Women's Basketball
Colorado has won double-digit games in the non conference schedule for the second time in three years (2007-08). The Buffaloes are just one win away from equaling their 2008-09 season total of 11 wins.
Colorado wins the first ever meeting with Yale and improves to 6-0 all-time against the Ivy League.
Monday was Colorado's 500th home game. The Buffaloes improved to 372-128 all-time at home (.744).
Colorado had 11 steals against Yale, giving the Buffs double-digit steals in eight of 13 games this season. CU had only five games with double-digit steals in 2008-09. The eight games of double-digit steals are the most in a season since the Buffaloes had 12 in 2003-04.
Freshman forward Meagan Malcolm-Peck registered a career high 19 points. It was her fourth double-digit scoring performance of the season and second in three games.
Malcolm-Peck was a perfect 4-of-4 from the 3-point line, just one off the school record for 3-pointers without a miss in one game (Jenny Roulier, 5-of-5 against Missouri on Feb. 13, 2002). Her four 3-pointers were a career high.
Freshman guard Chucky Jeffery had a career and team season-high eight assists. She tied career highs with 19 points (Seton Hall) and five steals (Georgia Southern).
Senior Brittany Spears scored 15 points and moved past Crystal Ford (1985-89) into 16th on CU's all-time scoring list. She now has 1,259 in 76 career games (16.6 ppg).
Spears' nine rebounds leaves her just one shy of 600 for her career. She would become the 13th Buffalo to reach 600 career boards.
Senior Bianca Smith made all four of her free throw attempts, improving her season percentage to 96.7 (29-30) which leads the Big 12 Conference. She has hit 21 straight, her lass miss coming at Minnesota.
