Quickly Colorado finished 7-8 in Big 12 Conference openers (2-5 on the road) ... This was CU's fifth straight Big 12 opener against a ranked opponent ... With no future games scheduled, the CU‐Missouri series stalls at 75 games, with MU ahead 40-32-3; CU has only played Colorado State (82 games) in its history more than the Tigers ... The Buffs have now lost 13 straight road games (CU's last road win was at Texas Tech on Oct. 27, 2007) ... In the 2007 game between CU and MU in Boulder, the Buffs led 10‐7 early in the second quarter. But since the Tigers took a 14‐10 lead with 14:04 to go in that first half, MU finished up the series leading for 211:20 of the next 224:04 ...First Action: PK Justin Castor saw his first career action (his first FGA was blocked); he is the sixth true freshman to play this year for CU; TB Quentinalso played for the first time in a Buff uniform Hildreth (he's a redshirt frosh) ... All eight of CU's penalties tonight were on the offense ... The 26‐yard rush on the fake punt was the opponents first conversion on fourth down this year; CU came in as the national leader as the enemy had been 0‐for‐5 ...The Buffs also came in tied for 11th in the nation in "hree‐and‐outs"with 18, and forced Mizzou in that predicament on five occasions ...DE Josh Hartigan made his first career interception in the fourth quarter, the first by a Buff defensive lineman since 2007, when DT Curtis Cunningham snared one at Florida State.
TONIGHT'S PUNCH vs. PUNCH WINNER: COLORADO. The third quarter has been a strong suit for both teams in 2010. Colorado has outscored its opponent by 46‐10, with a hefty edge in offense 487‐249. Missouri has a 50‐3 command on the scoreboard for the quarter and a 505‐207 advantage in offense. But tonight, while there were no points scored in the period, CU did own a 97‐17 edge in total offense, thus holding MU some 109 yards under its average for the quarter (126.3).
TB RODNEY STEWART (18-91, 0 TD) With 1,921 yards, he is now 20th all‐time at CU in rushing yards, passing Byron White (1,864) and Bob Stransky (1,868) to crack the top 20. Stewart was stopped on 3rd‐&‐1 on CU' first drive after coming into the game 7-for-7 on 3rd‐&‐1 and 4th‐&‐1 attempts (now 18‐of‐21 in his career). His 22‐yard rush on 3rd‐&‐22 for a first down late in the first half improved CU to 9‐of‐92 on 3rd‐&‐20 or longer since 1993, a span in which the opponents is 4‐of‐93 in the same situations.
WR Scotty McKnight (5-72, 0 TD) He extended his regular season streak to 41 games with at least one reception (every game of his career, 42 including postseason); that is an active player best in the NCAA. He continued to add to his all‐time school mark in receptions (186), and upped his receiving yards total to 2,150, inching closer to fourth position (Phil Savoy, 2,176). He remains tied for fourth in TD receptions (17); Derek McCoy and Rae Carruth lead with 20, Michael Westbrook had 19 and Javon Green also caught 17.
COLORADO INJURIES DE Forrest West did not play (pulled a hamstring conditioning on Thursday), and TB Brian Lockridge played sparingly (ankle) .... No other significant injuries reported or expected.
Missouri Game Notes
- The punting game continued to quietly shine against Colorado, as senior punter Matt Grabner downed his first punt of the game at the Colorado 2-yard line and junior Trey Barrow downed his first at the 1-yard line. Of Grabner's 20 punts this season, 8 have been inside the 20-yard line.
- The Mizzou defense notched its second safety of the year with 7:52 remaining in the 1st quarter, as pressure forced Colorado quarterback Tyler Hansen into an intentional grounding penalty in the endzone.
- Jerrell Jackson's 30-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was his second and longest of the season. He had previously scored on a 24-yard reception against McNeese State.
- Terrell Resonno blocked a 39-yard field goal attempt by Colorado midway through the second quarter. It was his first blocked field goal and the first of the season for the team. Mizzou also blocked a punt in the first quarter, thanks to the hustle of tight end Eric Waters.
- The Tigers' 97-yard scoring drive, capped off by a 10-yard touchdown reception by tight end Michael Egnew, marked the longest scoring drive of the year for the Mizzou offense. The previous long was a 94-yard drive against Miami of Ohio in Week 4.
- Mizzou ended the second half up 19-0. In the past five years against Colorado, the aggregate halftime score has been 138-19; in the last three, it has been 86-3.
- James Franklin had a career game after replacing Blaine Gabbert early in the fourth quarter. His 34-yard rush for a first down marked the longest of his career (his previous was a 10-yard rush against McNeese State). He also notched his first career passing touchdown with a 7-yard pass to Michael Egnew to put the Tigers up 26-0 with 9:16 remaining in the game.
- The Mizzou defense continued their trend of third quarter success, and is now one of only two defenses in college football this year that has yet to allow a touchdown in the third quarter (Iowa is the other, with a bye this week).
- Redshirt sophomore back Kip Edwards notched his first interception of the year (and second of his career) on a snagged pass from Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins in the fourth quarter. His interception was the ninth of the year for the Tigers.
