Linda Lappe joins her six predecessors with a victory in game one of their debut as CU's head women's basketball coach.
Colorado's 38-point margin of victory is its most in a season opener since a 93-43 win over Albany to open the 2000-01 season.
Sophomore guard Chucky Jeffery finished with 13 points and a personal best 12 rebounds, recording her second career double-double. Her first was a 14-point, 11-rebound effort against Nebraska on Jan. 30, 2010.
Jeffery also had a career-best six steals. She had five on four different occasions as a freshman, most recently at Baylor on Feb. 6, 2010.
Senior guard Britney Blythe set career highs with 15 points and five 3-point field goals, breaking her previous highs of 12 points and four 3-pointers against Baylor on Jan. 10, 2009.
It was Blythe's first points of any kind since Feb. 14, 2009, at Texas A&M (2). She did not score in 10 games played in 2009-10. Blythe was 5-of-7 from 3-point range on the night. She had made just 9-of-36 from downtown in her previous two seasons.
Blythe dished out five assists, matching her career best set against UMKC on Dec. 20, 2008.
Senior Brittany Spears had four rebounds to increase her career total to 724 and allow her to move from ninth to a tie for seventh on CU's all-time list with Britt Hartshorn (1998-02).
Spears also netted 20 points, giving her double-digits in scoring for the 80th time in 94 career games.
Shae Kelley To Leave CU Women's Basketball Team
Freshman forrward Shae Kelley has left the women's basketball team citing personal reasons, head coach Linda Lappe announced Friday.Kelley will remain enrolled at CU through the fall semester.
"Shae has decided to leave the University of Colorado and move on with her college career," Lappe said. "We wish her the best of luck in the future."
A 2010 graduate of Denver East High School, Kelley led the Angels to their first state title last March. She scored 22 points in CU's 93-62 exhibition win over Western State on Nov. 5 in her only appearance.
