Colorado-Loyola Chicago Quotes

November 28, 2010 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General

"I'm really happy with how our team played tonight. It's the first time that we've played pretty much a complete game, which is important with where we're at. We came out and we did some nice things defensively. Our defense really spurred our offense, especially in the second half, and we're just happy to win our tournament, and to play well in doing so."

On Chucky Jeffery's Triple-Double

"Chucky I thought, obviously, had a very complete game. She wasn't forcing nearly as much as she did last night. She was letting the game really come to her. She did a great job in transition. She did a great job getting us into our offense. She did a great job moving the ball. She took her scoring when it was there. She took her shots. She rebounded tremendously. I just thought she played, obviously, a really, really sound game all the way around, fundamentally and in her leadership, which they don't keep stats on. That was very, very good as well. We did realize, I think at the six minute mark, that she needed two assists. I was going to put her back in for a couple minutes, and that was about it. I was going to take her out. I had a sub for her, and she was able to get that last assist there to Meagan [Malcolm-Peck] right before she got taken out. I'm so glad that she was able to get that. She deserves it. She's worked really hard for it. We ask her to do a lot, and she keeps coming through. She keeps getting better, she's going to be really, really good."

On Her Team's Performance

"It's our most complete effort by far, defensively and offensively. We had five players in double figures. We held them to 34 points, our best of the year by far. Loyola is a pretty good team. They run their offense well. They were 3-1 coming into this game, and we were able to take them out of a lot of things they were going to do."

On Placing an Emphasis on Winning the Omni Hotels Classic

"It was a high priority. It was the first of a few tournaments. We're going to go to USC in December, and we're going to have the same sort of scenario. We play USC the first round, and Dayton and San Diego State are also in that tournament. That tournament is going to be very, very good, and we wanted to make sure that we kind of got used to the tournament format. We've had this tournament for a long time, and it's our goal to win our own tournament. We take pride in that. We just wanted to play. We wanted to get better. I felt like tonight we got better in a lot of areas."

Chucky Jeffery, So., G

ON HER TRIPLE-DOUBLE-"It just feels great. I just played really well. We had a real good team win, and I knew every time I passed to my teammates, it was going down. We just had a real good night, so it feels real good."

ON RECORDING THE SECOND TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN CU HISTORY-"I didn't know it was just the second one; I thought there were more before that, but that means a lot. I'm just going to keep going and hopefully get three, four, as many more of those that I can get."

ON WHETHER SHE WAS AWARE SHE WAS NEARING A TRIPLE-DOUBLE-"At one point I did know that I needed two more assists. My family was sitting in the crowd, and everyone was saying, 'You need two more.' So I'm driving down the lane and I have wide-open layups and I'm passing them off just so I could get it to Jules [Julie Seabrook], and she knocked it down. Then Meagan [Malcolm-Peck] hit my last one, and she got the foul on that one, so it was even more exciting. It just feels real good right now."

ON CU'S DEFENSE-"None of our principles changed. We just had to come out and knew we had to play for 40 minutes; not just 35, not just for a half. We knew once we got up, we have that tendency to slack off, but tonight, we said we couldn't do it. Our defense just kept getting better and better after we took those charges. We just kept getting more energy, and we never let up."

Meagan Malcolm-Peck, So., G/F

ON BEING ON RECEIVING END OF JEFFERY'S FINAL ASSIST-"I had no idea she was going for a triple-double, so thank God I made it. Chuck [Chucky Jeffery] was passing awesome the whole game, and she's always good on the rebounds and points, and assists as well. It was awesome that she could get the triple-double, and we're all really happy for her."

ON WINNING THE TOURNAMENT IN FRONT OF A HOME CROWD-"It's our home floor and to do it in front of our friends and family, is just an awesome feeling to be blessed to play in the place I've lived my whole life. It's just awesome. Everyone played so well as a team to get that win."
