December 27, 2010 | General, Men's Basketball

BOULDER - CU men's basketball guard Cory Higgins earns the Athlete of the Week Award for his performance during contests the week of December 20-26.

Higgins, originally from Danville, Calif. (Monte Vista), averaged 16 points and 3.5 rebounds per game leading the Colorado men's basketball team to a 1-1 record at the iBN Las Vegas Classic last week. Higgins scored 10 points in CU's 89-76 loss to New Mexico and scored a game-high 22 points in the team's 78-69 win over Indiana. The 6-foot-5 senior scored seven points in the final two minutes, first converting a driving layup into a dunk. He then added a three-point play with 1:01 remaining in the game, increasing CU's lead to eight points and an additional assist pushed CU's advantage to 10 points.

The 22 points was Higgins' third 20-point effort of the season (28th career) and the third time he has led the Buffaloes in scoring this season (40th career). Higgins also collected a season-best four steals and was 9-for-9 at the free throw line against the Hoosiers.

Higgins has started every game of his career at Colorado and ranks ninth in the school's history with 1,391 points. This is his 12th CU Athlete of the Week Award.
