March 30, 2010 | General, Men's Golf, Track and Field, Women's Golf
Bardgett, a native of St. Louis, Mo. (Chaminade College Prep), led the Buffs to a pair of sixth place finishes during spring break, in the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene and in the Barona Collegiate Cup outside of San Diego. He tied for 16th in Oregon, turning in a 71-76-72--219 scorecard (3-over par). In the Barona Cup, he tied for 22nd with a 71-80-69--220 effort, but the real story there was on the final day. He closed with CU's best round of the tournament, shooting a 3-under 69, and led the Buffs with 12 birdies in the meet, seven in the final round, with six of those on the front nine. That performance came after Bardgett, who started on No. 9 with a birdie and was 2-under after five holes, bogeyed four straight holes (Nos. 15-18) before returning to the front nine. He promptly birdied Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7, giving him a 30 for the side, tying the school record for the lowest 9-hole score previously achieved by Steve Jones (1980 Arizona State Sun Devil-Thunderbird Classic) and John Nyuli (1989 Wyoming-Red Jacoby Invitational).
Talley, a native of Napa, Calif., played in two tournaments over the CU's spring break, and opened the week by matching her career best with a sixth place finish at the BYU Invitational. She carded a 1-over par 73 in the final round, the second-best in the field. She was
4-over par after the first five holes of the first round, and shot the rest of the remaining 52 holes at 2-over par. She then bested her career high with a third place finish at CU's MountainView Invitational and was just one stroke behind the co-leaders. Her third place finish is just the 24th top three finish in school history and her two top 10 finishes gives her seven in her career, tied for fourth most in CU history as just a sophomore.
Tremblay, a native of Loveland, Colo. (Thompson Valley), recorded a 51st-place finish at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships on Sunday. Tremblay finished the 6-kilometer course in 21 minutes and 31 seconds. She came through the first lap in 6:59 and was 60th at the time. Her time coming through the second lap was 14:08 and moved her up to 51st. The U.S. junior women's team placed sixth overall at the championship with 123 points behind Kenya's 10 points. Kenya took the top four places in the race and was led by Mercy Cherono's time of 18:47.
Others nominated for this week's award were: Laura Thweatt (women's track), Monica Milewski (women's tennis), and Aldo Vega (men's track).
Women's Track: Laura Thweatt, Junior, Durango, Colo.
Thweatt became the 10th fastest Buff in the 10,000-meter run late Friday night at the Stanford Invitational. Thweatt's time of 34 minutes, 34.41 seconds was the fourth best time in the second section of the 10k. This was her debut in the event and is the quickest time recorded since Christine Bolf in 2006. Thweatt was just 17.76 seconds off the pace of Iowa State's Semehar Tesfave who won the section in 34:16.65.

Although, the Buffaloes lost both team scores in the state of Oklahoma, 5-2 against the Cowgirls, and 4-3 to the ooners, Milewski, the nation's No. 121 ranked singles player, rallied from a set down to defeat Constantinescu. It's the ninth time in her career that Milewski has rallied to win the match after dropping the opening set. In doubles, she teamed with sophomore Ania Anuzkiewicz at the No. 1 slot to defeat OSU's Belova/Shatkovskaya, 8-5. The doubles win moved Milewski into second place on the school's all-time list with 75 career doubles victories. Milewski and Anuskiewicz have won seven of eight doubles matches; and in singles, Milewski has also won seven of her last eight matches. Last week, Melisa Esposito defeated her South Carolina opponent Dijana Stojic in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 claiming her 76th career singles victory and moving into the school's top-10. Although CU lost the overall team score to the No. 22 ranked Gamecocks, 5-2, Esposito, the Buffaloes No. 2 and the No. 110th nationally ranked player, improved her career three-set record to an impressive 16-5 (.762).
