March 07, 2010 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER - The University of Colorado will play Baylor University in the first round of the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship set for March 11-14 at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

Colorado (13-16) is the No. 11 seed and matches up with the No. 6 seed Lady Bears (22-8) in the last game of the day on Thursday, March 11, a 6:30 p.m. MST start. The winner of Thursday's game will face No. 3 Oklahoma (21-9) on Friday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. MST.

Baylor finished the regular season tied for sixth in the Big 12 with Oklahoma State, and earned the No. 6 seed over the Cowgirls due to a better record against Southern Division teams (6-4 vs. 4-6). Baylor defeated the Buffaloes 76-42 in Waco on Feb. 6.

First round games will be streamed live, free of charge on Big 12 Sports.com. Additionally, Thursday's contests will be televised in the Kansas City area by the Metro Sports cable network. Fox Sports Net will televise rest of the tournament from the quarterfinals through the title game on Sunday, March 14. All of CU's games will be broadcast live by KKZN AM 760.

Colorado has been the No. 11 seed once before, in 2006, losing the first round game to Nebraska, 67-59. The No. 11 seed is 2-11 all-time in the first round of the Big 12 Championship (2-13 overall) and has not won since Oklahoma State knocked off Oklahoma 70-56 in the 1999 tournament.

The Buffaloes, 8-12 all-time in the Big 12 Championship, has never played Baylor in the postseason. The Lady Bears have a 10-8 all-time series edge over Colorado and have won the last six meetings.
