SPOKANE, Wash. - The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped its first match of the Gonzaga University Tournament to the host Bulldogs, 2-0, Friday evening at the Gonzaga Soccer Stadium.

Colorado (2-3) dropped its third-straight match, all away from home. The Bulldogs improve their record to 3-3-1.

After the first 45 minutes the score stood at 0-0 as the Buffaloes and Zags came up even by attempting six shots, each with two on goal.

Less than two minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs found the back of the net. Sheridan Jones delivered it to Emily Eckmann who blasted the ball from 25 yards out into the right side of the goal to put Gonzaga up 1-0 at the 46:32 mark.

Kayla Millar made her season debut at goal keeper as she replaced Annie Brunner in the 57th minute.

Jones logged her second assist of the night as the Zags scored their second goal in the 61st minute to put Gonzaga up by two. Jones sent the ball high into the air at the top of the penalty box and Ashley Riley knocked the ball into the goal.

"It's the first time this season that I've been disappointed in the effort, and it showed on the scoreboard," said head coach Bill Hempen. "Gonzaga out-hustled us, out-played us, out-determined us, and they deserved to win."

Although the Buffs were held scoreless, they outshot the Bulldogs 13-10. Junior Kate Russell led the team with four shots, two on goal.

The Buffaloes will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 12 when they take on Washington State in a match up of future Pacific-12 Conference foes at 11 a.m. at the Gonzaga Soccer Stadium.
