Colorado-Northern Arizona Quotes
November 11, 2011 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General:
“Well I'm pleased with how our team did tonight. I thought we got a lot better from our game against Regis in a lot of different areas. I thought offensively we moved the ball well, we were very balanced in our scoring attack we established our inside presence which was very important, we got to the rim and we also got some outside shots. We were pretty versatile in what we did tonight. Defensively we were really good at times and other times not as good, but I am really happy with the outcome and the progress our team made this week.”
On Bringing Chucky Jeffery Off The Bench:
“It was just a decision for today's game. I really enjoy Chucky coming off the bench just in general. Having some fire power coming off the bench is really important and you saw that in Lexy Kresl and in Chucky. That is important for our team. For us it doesn't really matter who starts, it matters who finishes the game. We need good stops and we need to score and I think you saw Chucky do some really good things off the bench. But I'm not saying that's how it's always going to be, but tonight it was the right decision.”
On How She Decides Who Starts:
“Well a lot of it is who performs in practice, and that is a really important part of what we do and who we are, we don't want game players we want practice players. Practice is where I gain confidence in our players and I think Brittany and Ashley Wilson, Rachel Hargis, Julie Seabrook, Megan Malcolm-Peck, they have been the most consistent players so far, and hopefully that continues to evolve and change. I liked our rotations more tonight. I thought I had three freshmen in the game at once too much against Regis, so I tried to limit that as much as I could tonight. Bringing Chucky off the bench tonight really helped.”
On Brittany Wilson's Game:
“I thought she did some nice things, I thought her energy was most impressive. When she was on the floor a lot of times we didn't lack energy and that was good to see her lead the team...she really attacked the basket. I thought she really let the game come to her and that's important. Those are the things as a sophomore that will become easier for her, she will know the tempo and speed, she will start to feel more comfortable in the game, and you could see that tonight.”
On Performance Of The Freshmen:
“I was impressed with them. We are still going to work with them defensively. It's important for when they come in to not let the intensity to come down and they will continue to get better with that. I thought Lexy Kresl came into the game with a lot of confidence. She got her feet set, and all of her shots were really good shots, and her teammates made some good screens. I thought Jen Reese did well when she got the ball, she is really strong, and she finishes so well even when there are people hanging on her arms. I thought Jasmine Sborov got a little nervous tonight, but really buckled down defensively and did some good things.”
OnThe Inside Presence:
“I feel like we missed the post a lot, but I thought our posts did a good job of sealing. We missed some high low actions where either a post gave up their seal or our guards didn't see it. But I though in general, a lot more than we have been, our guards are getting a lot more confident in passing to the inside, and our posts are doing a good job in making a presence in there and making some good decisions. I thought Rachel Hargis had a good game, she came out really strong and did some good things in the second half. She is gaining confidence which I think is really important.”
On Lexy Kresl:
“I thought she came out with a lot of confidence. I somehow knew she was going to play well against Northern Arizona, she knows a lot of those players. She had a little bit more of a challenge in coming out and making sure her team was successful. I wasn't surprised that she had a great game at all. What I like about Lexy is her game doesn't change from practice to the actual game.” ?

On First Game Of The Season
“It's always fun to play a season opener, with the fans there. We wanted to pick up where we left off last year, and include our four freshmen in it. I think that we are off to a good start. We just have to put together 40 minutes of play.”
On Getting Off To A Good Start
“A good start is important. We knew that if we didn't bury [Northern Arizona] quick, they have the weapons to come back. When we had the chance to put them away, we did. As you can see they scored fast in bunches, so we just had to put them away.”

On Tying The School Record For 3-Point Field Goals In One Half
“I was definitely feeling my shot. I knew we needed a pick-up so I used my energy to try and get the team going.”
On How She Feels In the Offense
“I feel really good in the offense. It's also about playing defense though. If you play good defense then you will get the shots you want. If you are patient, then you'll get your shot.”
Northern Arizona Head Coach Laurie Kelly
On Northern Arizona's performance today
“We didn't play as well as I think we could have played. We came out very timid. We don't have our whole squad here ? we have four of our top kids at home. We only brought four guards in our rotation and so we asked people to play a lot more minutes than we would typically ask them to play.”
On the first half
“I felt like we didn't have the intensity on the defensive end that we needed. That set the tone for the first half. At that point, you're down 24 at the half and you're just trying to adjust to that. I knew we just needed to try to get the team back on track.”
On the second half
“I saw some good things. I thought we definitely played more competitively in the second half. We started playing better team basketball. We took better care of the ball and we shot the ball better. They were a completely different team the second half. In the first half, we just gave up too many three's.”
On improvements needed to be made
“I think there are definitely some things that I saw that we need to work on before we go back home and play on Sunday. We need to come out of the gates better. A couple of the people that were suspended for this game will be back for our next game, that will definitely help. I think today we started off weak defensively and we really need to change that.”
On Colorado's performance
“My credit goes out to Colorado. They came out, set the tone, and played great team basketball. They hit a lot of open shots and played with a lot of confidence.”
