Kipp, Medina Named CU Athlete Of The Week

BOULDER - Cross country's Shalaya Kipp (sophomore) and Richard Medina (senior) both receive CU's Athlete of the Week award for their accomplishments the week of November 21-27.
Kipp, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah (Skyline), earned her second All-American cross country honor after racing to a 19th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Improving from a 40th place finish in 2010 as a redshirt freshman, Kipp led CU after crossing the finish line of the 6k race in 20:08.1. Helping the Buffs place 11th as a team, Kipp has led the Buffs in all five varsity races this year and was named to the all-region and All-Pac-12 First Team.
Medina, a native of Grand Junction, Colo. (Grand Junction) earned his first All-American cross country honor while recording an eighth place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. It was the highest finish for a Buff since Brent Vaughn placed fifth at the meet in 2007. Medina finished the 10k course in 29:27.8 to lead CU to a third-place team finish. He improved from his previous best placing at nationals (57th) from the 2009 championships. This season, he has led CU in four of its five varsity races and was named to the All-Pac-12 Team and received all-region honors.

Women's Basketball: Chucky Jeffery, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.
Junior Chucky Jeffery was named Most Valuable Player of the Omni Hotels Classic for the second consecutive season, guiding the Buffs to the 2011 team title with wins over Valparaiso and Wisconsin. She recorded her second double-double of the season and the 12th of her career with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the championship game win over Wisconsin. Jeffery led Colorado's sixth best scoring defensive effort in team history, as Valparaiso scored just 32 points in the first round contest. She has also helped guide Colorado to its first 5-0 mark since the 2000-01 season.
Volleyball: Kerra Schroeder, Jr., San Diego, Calif.
Junior Kerra Schroeder recorded 15 kills and 10 digs in the Buffs' loss on Nov. 23 to Utah (23-25, 21-25, 25-27). She averaged 5.00 kills, 3.33 digs, 0.67 aces and 0.67 blocks per set while hitting .190. Schroeder ended the season with 431 kills and 286 digs while hitting .150, ranking seventh overall in the Pac-12.
Football: Jon Major, Jr., Parker, Colo.
Junior Jon Major was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after recording nine tackles (six solo), including two for a loss and a quarterback sack in CU's 17-14 win over Utah. He had his best game of the year, helping limit Utah to just 39 yards and one first down in the first half.
Men's Basketball: Nate Tomlinson, Sr., Sydney, Australia
Senior Nate Tomlinson scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, leading the Colorado men's basketball team to a 76-73 overtime victory at Air Force. Tomlinson shot 7-for-11 from the field tying a career-best four 3-pointers.
