Tad Boyle Post-Game Quotes

November 30, 2011 | Men's Basketball

On the loss:
"I have no idea how we had a chance to win that but I told the guys in the locker room, 'I don't fault your competitiveness, I don't fault your desire, I don't fault your will to win. I don't fault any of that stuff. What I fault is our execution.' When your team doesn't execute, as a coach, I take responsibility for that. This team's heart is there and we are not going to lose that. We are going to be in a lot of close games like this; we already have been. We won our fair share and had this one tonight so really positive things. Our 24 defense at the end was phenomenal. They call two timeouts; end up getting a steal and a lay-up. We couldn't get a stop."

On missed free throws:
"I wish I had that answer. I don't have that answer as a coach right now. I know we chart every free throw in practice. I know we have guys shooting over 75 percent. Every guy that plays is shooting over 75 percent in practice. We are not translating that into games. How I do that, I don't have an answer. I'm sure I will get a lot of advice from everybody and their mother will tell me how to do it. Right now you can look at a lot of different things, free-throw shooting one of them. Nine turnovers in the first half is one, a technical foul by your senior point guard is one of them. You can look at a lot of different things that lost us the game tonight, most of them in our control. Some of them weren't. We can't control the whistle, Colorado State making tough shots but we need to control what we can and we didn't do a good job of that tonight."

On CSU fans storming the court:
"Good for them - that's the exciting part of college basketball. If that's what they want to do, I have no problem with it. I want it to inspire our guys. We showed a film of their students storming the court two years ago to try and inspire them and say, 'hey, this is what we want to prevent.' We weren't good enough to prevent that. Good for them."

On Wes Eikmeier:
"I thought we did a good job on him for the most part. We made him make tough shots and he is a good player. He is going to score a lot of points in the Mountain West. I have a lot of respect for him."
