Colorado vs Regis Quotes

November 06, 2011 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General
“Well I thought it was a good start, it was nice to get the uniforms on and play in front of a crowd, and it's great that this one doesn't count. This gave us a chance to use a lot of different lineups, players, and put them in different situations. Anytime you have an exhibition game I think those are the things you are trying to get out of it more so than a win or a loss. We had things that we had been working on all week and I thought we got better from this week to last week.”

On What She Liked, Didn't Like
“I liked at times defensively what we did but we didn't sustain by any means, we probably had about 20 decent minutes of defense. I thought we rebounded much better tonight than we have been, I though offensively we got any shot we really wanted, now we just have to step up and knock them down and that is just part of getting in the gym a little extra and getting those extra shots. I thought we worked together well we were balanced, and everybody contributed to what we were doing.”

On Starting Out Fast Inside
“We have to have an inside presence, and we kind of went away from that pretty early. You can see the difference in our team we have to be somebody that can utilize our three point shot and hit our outside shots at the same time, we need some easy baskets, and those are easy baskets that we have to finish.”

On Court Communication
“I think you can see definite spurts tonight where there was silence on the court, and that is where we started to struggle and part of that is getting our young players up to speed, but they are getting there. We have gotten better, but talk is hard especially when you get tired it's hard to communicate, conditioning your body and your voice to want to speak when you are tired. We have gotten better and I think our returners did some good things regarding communication on the court.”

On The Freshmen
“I thought everybody had a solid game, in regards to the freshman they got a lot of minutes, and it was good for them to just get out on the floor and get some of those jitters out. I think Lexy Kresl did a great job of following her shot, she didn't get a shot for a while I knew would at least get one shot tonight but I'm glad she walked away with a couple. She also did a nice job of running in transition. Jasmine Sborov I thought had a little bit of a tough night, but she is going to continue to get better she is going to find her place in the offense and defense. She is an aggressive player and that is what you like to see. She got five fouls tonight but at the same time that is something we can change. It is hard to make players more aggressive and she's already got it, now we can kind of tailor it back a little and get her in the right positions so she can stay in the game a little longer. I thought Jen Reese did some nice things; Jen really let the game come to her tonight. She didn't get herself too involved in the offense which we need to continue to see more of, but she will continue to evolve in that area. I thought they all three stepped up.”

On The Wilson Twins
“I thought Ashley getting to the offensive glass and getting to the free throw line and really just letting the game come to her. Ashley had four turnovers and Brittany had two, those are the things we are continuing to work on as far as just taking care of the ball. But I thought they were both very aggressive, Brittany did some nice things from the point guard and from the two spot as well.”

On Focus For Next Week
“I think moving our feet defensively. I didn't think we were ready defensively and we weren't ready to guard our own. It's great to have five defenders who are guarding the ball and having a five verses one mentality, but at the same time our players have to continue to take pride in guarding their own player a little bit more than they did tonight. So we will continue to work on that, and also transition defense as well. I thought that was something we can still get better at, and Northern Arizona likes to push the ball in transition, so we will have to be ready for that. Offensively just getting a flow, sometimes when the first thing that we were looking for broke down we kind of just stopped rather than staying into the flow of our offense.”

Colorado Players

Lexy Kresl, Fr., G
On Playing In Her First Game
“It was good.? I was definitely a little nervous in the beginning, but I got used to it as the game went on...and it was just finally realizing that all the work is coming together and it's finally starting.? I have a good feeling about this season.”

Rachel Hargis, So., C
On Her Offseason Workouts:
“(Julie Seabrook and I) worked really hard during the offseason putting on muscle mass and getting stronger down low. ?We've worked really hard on our turnaround jumpers, being able to post up easily, not having to make a move and just go up to the basket and score easily.? We've worked really hard on getting better at doing that.”

Regis Head Coach Linda Raunig

On Playing A Division I Team
“Coming into the game, I told the team that it wasn't about CU being a D1 school and us being a D2 school. It was about us improving on the last outing we had Friday night against UNC.”

On Playing Five In A Row On The Road
“To finish in the top four or five in our conference, you obviously have to be able to win on the road. It just happened to work out this way on our schedule this season. We co-host a tournament with (Colorado) Mines later in the season. Two of those games are just ten miles down the road from our campus ? so we consider those home games.”

On Today's Performance
“I think the biggest thing today was that our defense was absolutely tremendous. We forced a lot of turnovers and we did a much better job of rebounding in the second half. We caused CU to have to call a couple of timeouts because they were in a bind-- that's the thing we want to get out of a game like this.”

On Improvements Needed
“The team is still getting to know each other. We have 16 players on our roster and seven of those players are brand new to the program. We're young and we put in a new offense this year and we're still trying to figure all of that out. This is the time of year when we start playing games and we will start to see a great deal of improvement with each game.”

On The Two Returning Seniors
“We always count on our seniors for leadership, always - especially in practice. Both of them are really intelligent and have a high basketball IQ. They both do a great job of always knowing what's going on. This class of seniors is amazing.”
