December 14, 2011 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
BOULDER - Women's basketball guard Chucky Jeffery (junior) and men's basketball forward Andre Roberson (sophomore) are recognized as CU's Athlete of the Week for their performances the week of Dec. 5 - Dec. 11.
Jeffery, who received the honor of CU Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, recorded 20 points in a 71-36 win over Denver on Thursday night. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native (Sierra) was 9-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point range to notch 20-plus points for the third straight game. Over this three-game stretch, Jeffery has shot 71 percent (29-of-41) on field goals, including 80 percent (8-of-10) from beyond the arc. Her 9-of-10 performance against Denver was the highest percentage for a Buff on a minimum of 10 attempts since Jackie McFarland was also 9-of-10 against CSU Bakersfield on Dec. 28, 2007. Jeffery also dished out six assists against the Pioneers.
Roberson, a forward from San Antonio, Texas (Wagner), averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds as the Buffs split home games against Fresno State and Wyoming. Roberson tied a career-high with 21 points in the win over the Bulldogs, while also pulling down 10 boards. Roberson was 5-of-6 from the field (including 2-of-2 from beyond the three-point arc) and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line in the Fresno State game. He recorded his second double-double of the week, and sixth of the season, by notching 10 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to Wyoming. Through Tuesday's games, Roberson ranks fourth nationally, averaging 11.8 rebounds per game on the season.
