Kansas State-Colorado Notes

February 16, 2011 | Women's Basketball

Kansas State wins its third straight over CU and sixth out of seven games to improve its series lead to 35-33 all-time.

Colorado drops its 10th straight game away from home and eighth straight true road game dating back to last season.

Colorado was outrebounded for just the sixth time in 24 games this season (35-32).

Colorado made its first 12 free throw attempts and finished at 15-of-16, a season high percentage (.938). The Buffaloes had averaged just 6.9 free throws made over the previous seven games.

Kansas State made 14 3-point field goals, a season high for a CU opponent and the most the Buffaloes have allowed since Iowa State had 14 on March 11, 2008, in the first round of the Big 12 Championship. The Wildcats had eight 3-pointers in the first half alone which was as many the Buffaloes had given up in a game prior to tonight (at Texas and vs. ISU).

Sophomore Chucky Jeffery scored 18 points, her most since putting up 19 in the last meeting against Kansas State on Jan. 26. Jeffery's 6-for-6 performance from the line was the best by a Colorado player this season.

Senior Brittany Spears extended her own school record with her 117th consecutive start. She also moved into a tie for third place on CU's all-time lists for starts with Bridget Turner and current CU Director of Operations Tracy Tripp who each started 117 games from 1985-89.

Spears finished with six points, failing to score in double-digits for just the second time this season (5 at USC). She played 26 minutes, moving from seventh to fifth on CU's all-time list for minutes played with 3,877. She passed Mandy Nightingale (3,853) and Bridget Turner (3,858)

Prior to the game junior Julie Seabrook was named CU's member of the 2011 Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions team. One student-athlete at each Big 12 institution is awarded each fall, winter and spring term based on academics, community service, leadership and sportsmanship.
