Buffs Hold On for Road Win at Texas Tech
February 23, 2011 | Men's Basketball
The Buffaloes (17-11, 6-7 Big 12) led most of the game, including a 33-21 halftime lead and a 14-point advantage with 1:11 left in the first half. The Buffs survived a 21-5 surge by the Red Raiders early in the second half.
Texas Tech (12-16, 4-9) took a four-point lead with 11:38 left in the game and again went up briefly, 63-62, on a layup by D'walyn Roberts with 4:11 left but couldn't sustain its momentum.
Knutson hit a jump shot assisted by Cory Higgins to give CU the lead back at 64-63, and they would not trail the rest of the way.
"We really have grown up obviously and played better down the stretch than we did against Baylor," Boyle said following the game, comparing tonight's game to CU's 70-66 loss at Baylor on Jan. 29. Â "This was the same deal, a 14-point lead and we were up 14 at Baylor and they made a run back and we didn't handle it as well. Tonight we handled it, kept our composure, executed and made shots when we had to make shots."
Knutson hit the second of two free throws with 15.3 seconds remaining to seal the win.
A desperation shot by David Tairu missed its mark to end the game.
The Buffaloes, who got their third road win of the season and second in Big 12 play, outrebounded the Red Raiders 40-34.
Marcus Relphorde added 15 points for Colorado and Alec Burks had 14 points along with eight rebounds. Andre Roberson led the Buffs with nine boards.
John Roberson scored 18 points, and Mike Singletary added 17 to lead Texas Tech.
The Buffs return to action on Saturday as they play host in front of a sell-out crowd to the No. 5/5 Texas Longhorns. The game will tip at 2 p.m.
