Colorado-Nebraska Quotes

February 06, 2011 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General

"I thought we played an outstanding game. I really saw an outstanding performance by our team. We came out and kind of had a slow start but changed our mindset after the first three minutes, for the rest of the game. Nebraska had a nice little run there and we responded very nicely. It was an all around team win. We have not shot the ball that well offensively all season long. Our 18 assists, any time you can have that many assists, it means the ball is moving, and everyone is touching it."

On Offensive Shooting

"It was because we were not keeping the ball in one person's hands very long. They were making the defense shift. We were reading their switches very, very well. We were moving to the open spots coming off of screens. Quite frankly we were knocking down shots in the first half. We were taking wide open shots, shots that we practice all the time. Whenever you do that, you can expect a good shooting night. I thought our defense played well again, holding them to 45 points. It was a tremendous effort, and I think we did a good job on better key plays."

On Brittany Spears' Game

"She played a very complete game. Offensively she hit her three's and had some nice drives, and she hit a couple of pull-up jumpers. She scored in a lot of different ways, and she helped move the ball. I don't think she had a quiet 26 points, but it was quiet the way you looked at it. She wasn't forcing any of her shots and for her that is absolutely tremendous. On defense she did a great job on [Jordan] Hooper. She got some nice key rebounds for us, especially during their run. She played an all around complete game."

On Rachel Hargis

"Rachel is coming along. She is a good post presence, she rebounded very well tonight. She moved the ball and got a nice drawing kick late in the shot clock. She is feeling much more comfortable. She has been working hard all season long and it is nice to see her get some playing time and some benefits from working that hard."

On Upcoming Break

"I think it is a great time for a break. I wouldn't want it any other way. So we give them a couple days off and then ramp it up again. We want to finish February strong and head into March. This is a key time to get rested. We've had some sicknesses and time to get well and to get everyone back."

Colorado Players

Brittany Spears, Sr., F

ON THE WHAT WAS SAID DURING THE HALFTIME SPEECH - "Just stay together, play as a team, and we will win."

ON WHAT THIS WIN MEANS FOR THE TEAM IN LIGHT OF LOSING STREAK- "I think this win gave us a lot of confidence that we can play with anybody. We can play defense and play together. Anytime you put those things together, you're going to win."

ON RIVALRY AND IT'S EFFECT ON HER PERFORMANCE- "I just wanted to win. To just come out aggressive and win, that's all I wanted to do."

Chucky Jeffery, So., G

ON TONIGHT'S OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE POSSIBLY BEING THE BEST THIS SEASON- "I would say that. Everything begins on defense but on offense we got the ball moving, everybody got touches, and we were reversing the ball. When you reverse the ball it's hard to guard when the ball keeps getting reversed because the defense has to shift. So everybody was getting touches and I thought our offense was really good.

ON TIMING OF BREAK- "I guess it goes both ways, because we have momentum right now but with us being off we just have to be ready to come back with the same intensity and aggressiveness that we have now. Basketballs not over, the break will be good for us but we just have to be ready to come back."

ON NEAR TRIPLE DOUBLE- "It felt kind of good. I knew I had a lot of assists because I was dishing it a lot, and every time I was passing to Brittany she was hitting. I was trying to count but I couldn't. It was good though."

ON THE ABUNDANCE OF NEBRASKA FANS- "I made us real upset. We could not let them bring all of their fans in here. This is not their gym. So we wanted to send them on a long ride home

Britney Blythe, Sr., G

ON THE 3 POINTERS AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE ZONE DEFENSE- "It wasn't an objective but I think we just hit open shots. We weren't hesitant at all so once we started hitting it was just going in.

Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori

On The Game Plan Coming To Colorado-"We intended to play quite a bit on man defense and knew we had to mix some zone in. When we got in foul trouble in the first half, it forced us to go to more zone, and they did a good job of knocking down threes against our zone."

On Colorado's Play Wearing Down NU's Defense-"They made a lot of shots. Colorado is a good three-point shooting team, and they definitely had it going today. Spears had it going. They were able to execute when they wanted to, and we didn't guard very well."

On How NU Will Prepare To Play Baylor Next-"You have to get back on the horse. You only have two choices: give into it or be a competitor."
