April 05, 2011 | General, Tennis, Track and Field
Von Hagen had an outstanding performance this past week at the Jim Click Combined Events meet in Tucson, Ariz. The senior athlete finished sixth place in the men's decathlon, scoring a personal best 6,724 points. In the 10-event competition, Von Hagen placed first in the 1,500-meter run (4 minutes, 28.89 seconds), second place in both the high jump (a jump of 6-05.50) and long jump (22 feet, 8 inches) and sixth in the 400-meter sprint (51.47) among his other finishes. The Broomfield, Colo., native also scored several personal records, including the shot put (37-05 toss) and the 110-meter hurdles (16.11). His quick finish in the hurdles was enough to land him third in CU's combined events record book.
Schleich managed to put the Buffs' tennis team on the board with the lone victory this past week. The freshman from Lilienthal, Germany, defeated Nataliya Shatkovskaya of Oklahoma State 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position. The win marked her 16th victory of the year, third at the top singles spot.
Also nominated this week were Alec Burks (men's basketball) and Holly Odneal (women's track and field).
Burks led the Buffs as Colorado ended its exciting basketball season at Madison Square Garden in a close 61-62 loss to Alabama. The 6-6 sophomore scored 13 of his team-high 20 points in the first half, and contributed six rebounds and four assists. His twenty points marked the seventh straight game he netted 20 or more points, and gave him a school record 779 points on the season. He was also perfect at the free throw line (7-of-7).
Odneal finished 10th overall in the women's heptathlon at the Jim Click Combined Events meet. Her performance was marked by a series of personal records. She had a PR with a 5-05.25 in the high jump, and scored a personal best 4,454 points. Her shot put throw of 35 feet, 8 inches, was also enough to tie her for the seventh best all time in CU track and field history.
