Coburn Garners Big 12 Athlete of the Week Honor

IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado junior Emma Coburn was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week after running the 2011 world-leading 3,000-meter steeplechase time on Sunday at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.
Coburn won the top section of the steeplechase with a personal record of 9 minute, 40.51 seconds. The time is the 13th best in school history and was an eleven second PR as she surpassed her previous mark of 9:51.86. The Crested Butte, Colo. native finished 8.34 seconds ahead of Sara Hall (9:48.85) and was 12.61 seconds in front of the second collegiate finisher, Rebeka Stowe (Kansas), who clocked 9:53.12. Coburn's time is an Olympic 'A' standard.
Colorado is off this week but will be back in action May 13-15 at the 2011 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. Coburn will have a chance to defend her 2010 steeplechase title at the meet.
