Buffaloes Announce 2011-12 Women's Basketball Schedule

After warming up with an exhibition game against Regis (Colo.) on Sunday, Nov. 6, the Buffaloes open regular season play by hosting Northern Arizona on Friday, Nov. 11.
The Buffaloes then make their first of two nonconference trips to the state of Texas, playing at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday, Nov. 16. CU returns to the Rocky Mountain region for its annual game with Colorado State on Sunday, Nov. 20, in Fort Collins.
For the 25th consecutive year, the Buffaloes will host a Thanksgiving weekend tournament. Tabbed the Omni Hotels Classic for the third time, the Buffaloes welcome in 2011 Postseason WNIT participant Wisconsin, Valparaiso and Montana State on Nov. 25-26. CU will take on Valparaiso in the first round on Friday while Montana State and Wisconsin will clash in the opener. The consolation and championship games will follow on Saturday.
The Omni Hotels Classic kicks off a season-long six-game home stand for the Buffaloes. Following the classic, Colorado hosts San Francisco (Wednesday, Nov. 30), Idaho (Sunday, Dec. 4), Denver (Thursday, Dec. 8) and, after a break for finals, Weber State (Saturday, Dec. 17).
CU closes out nonconference action with a pair of tournament games at Texas-San Antonio, Dec. 20-21. Matchups for the four-team tournament have not been announced.
"We are excited about our upcoming schedule as our nonconference games should prepare us for life in the Pac-12," Lappe said. "It's great to have two of the four (NCAA Division I) universities from the state of Colorado on the schedule as well as a more balanced schedule in terms of home and away games.
"What is also unique is that each one of our players will get to play at least one game close to their home town which will be very special for them and their families."
The Pac-12 schedule, originally released last November, is comprised of 18 conference games for each institution. Each season, CU will play a home-and-home series against its institutional rival Utah and six other opponents while playing four opponents on a single-game basis - two at home and two on the road. The single-play opponents will rotate every two years. Conference games are scheduled to be played on Thursday-Saturday, but individual games could be moved for a variety of reasons, including television.
Colorado will open Pac-12 competition with three straight on the road, beginning at Utah on Saturday, Dec. 31. The following week, the Buffaloes travel to play Washington (Thursday, Jan. 5) and Washington State (Saturday, Jan. 7) for the only time in 2012.
The Buffaloes make their Pac-12 home debut on Thursday, Jan. 12, against California, a rematch of a 2011 Postseason WNIT second round game, won by Colorado, 81-65, in Boulder. CU will then host defending league champion and 2011 NCAA Women's Final Four participant Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Beginning with that Cal-Stanford series, the Buffaloes will alternate home and road weekends for the rest of the season with the exception of one three-game home stretch with Arizona (Thursday, Feb. 9), Arizona State (Saturday, Feb. 11) and Utah (Saturday, Feb. 18). USC (Thursday, Jan. 26) and UCLA (Saturday, Jan. 28) are CU's other one-time opponents, with both of those teams coming to Boulder.
Times and any television arrangements for the 2011-12 women's basketball season will be announced at a later date.
