Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle

On Team Playing Timid

"We didn't handle it well. We got our (butt's) kicked in every form, fashion and way you can do it. There is just no other way you can put it. There is no other adjective to describe it; we just got whooped in every way shape or form, mentally, physically. (Kansas) has had a week off, and you can tell they have been working. They came out here hungry, tougher than us, and we didn't handle it well. And, right now I think it is safe to say, the (Colorado) Buffaloes are not a good road team. I think we are a good home team, I think we are a good neutral court team, but we are not a good road team and we better get that figured out between now and next Wednesday (at Fresno State). I take responsibility as a coach, I give our guys a lot of freedom, and with freedom comes responsibility. So, what I've learned when going on the road, is that we have to take some of that freedom away from them; whether that is shots, or dictating who goes where on the court, but we've got a lot of work to do between now and next Wednesday. And, it is not going to happen overnight, but we've got to make some changes, because what we are doing ain't working."

On What He Wants Team To Learn

"Well, I want it to hurt, I want them to be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed, I'm not embarrassed to be their coach, I'm embarrassed the way we played and performed in a big time environment. But, what we learned is we better be able to handle pressure better than the way we handled it. Again, you look at the assist to turnover ratio eight-to-eighteen; we didn't handle pressure we had 12 turnovers in the first half. We didn't execute our game plan, and this team is capable of executing a game plan, we've seen them do it and do it well but we've seen them do it poorly. We have to take what we talk about in practice and in the scouting report and in the locker room before the game and we have to execute it on the court better than what we are doing right now, we are not doing that. You know, we talked about clogging up the paint, we talked about taking away their transition, we talked about taking care of the basketball, all those things came into play. They had 24 layups, now they made 23 of them, so they had 46 points in the paint; that was one of the things we wanted to take away from KU and we didn't do it. So, you learn a lot, but the biggest thing is we have to grow up and we can't be intimidated and we have to get mentally tougher."

On Freshman Josh Scott

"Our guys obviously have a lot of confidence in Josh and they were looking to get him the ball and he did some good things when he got it, but you need more than one guy. That is another thing we learned is you can't go on the road and beat people by yourself, and we have some guys that want to try to beat people by themselves, and the only way you do (beat opponents) is by doing it together. Right now, offensively and defensively tonight, we weren't together and that is disappointing. I thought there were some good things, I thought Xavier Talton in the second half took some big time charges and that is something we talked about at halftime and in timeouts, and he came out and did that. So, there are some things that are positive, but our young guys played like young guys tonight. In an environment like this you better not back down because this crowd senses it, those (KU) players sense it, and they were like sharks in the water on us."

On Spencer Dinwiddie's Injury

"Yeah, I don't know, he's not 100 percent, he was limping in the second half. I probably should have just let him sit the (entire second half) but he wanted to play, but he wasn't 100 percent. I don't know if it is his foot or ankle or what it is, but hopefully we can get him healthy and move on. We've got to move on from this, it is only one game, we've got to learn from it , OK, were not just going to forget about it. We have to watch the tape and handle it like any other loss, but we better be able to bounce back and understand that there is a lot of room  for improvement for our team and our program. Sometimes our guys might get a little too full of themselves, but that is why these environments are good to humble you."
