Hajkova, Roberson Awarded CU Athlete Of The Week

Six-foot-seven forward Andre Roberson averaged 11.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game during Colorado's sweep over Oregon State and Oregon. Roberson shot 64.3 percent from the floor, in addition to averaging one assist and one steal. The San Antonio, Texas (Wagner) native set a career-high and broke this season's Pac-12 Conference high for blocks in a single game, with seven in the Buffs 72-71 win over Oregon at Coors Events Center this past Saturday. Roberson also collected 11 rebounds with 3-of-4 shooting from the field. Against Oregon State, Roberson was just as impressive, recording his conference-best 15th double-double with a game-high 16 points and 15 rebounds against the Beavers, while adding a 6-of-10 shooting performance with a three-pointer, two blocks, two steals, and an assist. Already surpassing last year's block shot total with 43, he is tied for 11th on the CU all-time list with 85 total shots blocked. On the rebounding chart, Roberson is steadily moving up the season and career lists with 257 rebounds already this season (17th overall) and an impressive 554 overall in his two years at CU (21st overall).
Eliska Hajkova won the women's 5K classical race to kick off eight days of skiing at the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational this past Saturday. Winning the race by an impressive 10.2 seconds, her win was the second largest margin of victory of the season and largest in a 5K race. Winning over Utah's Maria Graefnings, last season, Graefnings and Hajkova finished 1-2 in eight of the 12 races of the season, including both races at NCAA Championships with each taking an individual NCAA title home. For the Jablonec, Czech Republic (Gymnasium Vseobecne/Masaryko) native, it is her fifth collegiate race victory and her first of the 2011-2012 season. It is her second podium appearance this season and her 20th podium appearance in 29 career races.
Also nominated for this week's award: Katie Dreher (track and field), Derek Fribbs (men's golf), Mark Jones (track and field), Rune Oedegaard (men's skiing).
Senior Katie Dreher and freshman Mark Jones were both nominated for their performances in the high jump at the New Mexico Classic. Dreher placed sixth overall, earning a personal record and becoming the eight best CU performer with a mark of 5 feet, 8 inches. Jones finished fourth in the event, recording a jump of 6 feet, 10 1/4 inches.
Junior Derek Fribbs scored three straight 1-under 71's on the 7.074-yard, par-72 Waikoloa King's Course in Hawai'i to finish with a 3-under 213, tying him for 23rd place. He led the Buffs with nine birdies, recorded 36 pars (second best), and was the only Buff not to score anything higher than a bogey.
Sophomore Rune Oedegaard finished second in the men's 5K classical race to kick off eight days of skiing in Alaska at the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational on Saturday. Taking second by just 1.7 seconds, his finish marks the closest margin of victory of the season. Oedegaard now has four podium appearances (all consecutive) in five races this season with two victories, second place and third place.
