Scott, Aiello Pick Up AOTW Honors

BOULDER - Basketball's Josh Scott (sophomore) and tennis player Alexandra Aiello (sophomore) were named CU Athletes of the Week on Wednesday for the week of Nov. 4-10.
Scott, a forward from Monument, Colo. (Lewis-Palmer), led the Buffaloes in Colorado's first two games of the season in points and rebounds. Helping the Buffs to a 1-1 record, Scott scored 15 points with 11 rebounds for his third career double-double in CU's 72-60 loss to No. 25 Baylor in Dallas. Two days later, CU defeated UT Martin 91-65 in its home opener at Coors Events Center as Scott tied game-high honors with 15 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 5-8 from the field.
Aiello, a native of Tequesta, Fla. (Laurel Springs/Syracuse), won a pair of singles matches, while teaming with senior Carla Manzi Tenorio for another two wins at the Western Michigan University Invitational over the weekend. Defeating Meika Ashby of Western Michigan, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(12) and Bowling Green's Katie Brozovich, 6-0, 6-4, Aiello's come-from-behind win against Western Michigan was the second of her career at CU. Aiello currently leads the Buffs with 10 victories this fall season, with five of her 10 wins occurring in three sets.
Also nominated for this week's Athlete of the Week honors: Taylor Simpson (volleyball).
Simpson, a junior outside hitter, averaged 4.71 kills per set last weekend as the Buffs lost a pair of matches to No. 6 Stanford and No. 22 California. She recorded 1.79 digs and 0.71 blocks per set, while hitting .161. Against the Cardinal, Simpson had 12 kills and five digs. She came back the following night to hammer 21 kills and hit .269 with four digs and five block assists in the effort against the Bears.
