Oedegaard, Wales Receive Athlete of Week Honors

BOULDER-- University of Colorado skiers Rune Oedegaard and Brooke Wales were awarded Athlete of the Week honors on Thursday for the week of Dec. 16-22.
Oedegaard, a junior from Molde, Norway (NTG Lillehammer/Molde Ski Club), compiled four top 10 finishes against some of the world's top competition at the 26th Winter World University Games in Trentino, Italy. Finishing 12th in the Skiathlon to open the games, Oedegaard then advanced to the semifinals of the Classic Sprint races where he took seventh in the Mixed Freestyle, eighth in the 10K Freestyle, seventh in the 4x10K relay and fifth in the 30K Classic race.
Wales, a sophomore from Sammamish, Wash. (Eastside Catholic/U.S. Ski Team) led the CU women's alpine team at the University Games, finishing 18th in the giant slalom race. She finished 20th in the slalom race, a discipline she is still improving with after not having concentrated on it much until coming to CU last year.
Also nominated for this week's Athlete of the Week award: Josh Scott (men's basketball) and Lexy Kresl (women's basketball).
Scott, a sophomore forward, recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a 20-point, 12-rebound performance in Colorado's 78-73 loss to No. 7/7 Oklahoma State at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The 20 points tied a season-best for Scott, who led the Buffaloes (10-2) in scoring for the fifth time and in rebounding for the seventh time this season. Scott scored 18 of his team-high 20 points in the second half, including all 10 free throws, which tied a career-high.
Kresl, a junior guard, had 17 points in Colorado's 69-62 road loss to No. 7 Louisville on Saturday. Kresl shot 5-of-11 from the field and tied for a team-high eight defensive rebounds, while shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
