GAME FLOW NOTES

  • First 10 minutes saw eight lead changes and one tie; there was one lead change and one tie in CU's previous two home games combined (Stanford/Cal).
  • For nearly the first 16 minutes, neither team led by more than four (CU, 12-8 and 14-10); it was a "one-possession" game for all but 57 seconds of that 15:47 until Askia Booker drilled a 3-pointer to give CU a 26-21 lead with 4:13 to play.
  • Arizona cut the CU lead to 28-23 with 1:38 left in the first half; CU then outscored UA 10-0 over the next 4:43 to build a 38-23 edge with 16:55 to play.
  • UA started hitting some 3's, making three in a 16-7 run over the next 6:02 to pull to within 45-39.
  • Colorado countered with an 11-2 run to go back up 56-41; the closest UA got after that was nine on two occasions.

QUICKLY Colorado is now 12-11 on Valentine's Day (11-3 at home) ... In their history, the Buffaloes are now 24-121 against top 10 teams (3-6 under Tad Boyle) ... Former Buff Alec Burks ('11) popped over from Utah where he is averaging 6.2 points (but 15.3 the last three games) to watch his alma mater ... Placekicker Mason Crosby ('06; Green Bay Packers) was also in the house ... CU wore its silver uniforms for the third time this season and improved to 3-0 in the garb (wins over CSU, California and Arizona) ... Tonight's crowd of 11,120 was the ninth over 10,000 this year, adding to the school record; the Buffs have now drawn 114,017 for 11 home games, or 10,365 per (behind only Arizona in the Pac-12, chart on page 2). That works to 93.7 percent of capacity (11,064) ... Game time was 1:58 ... Three of the five mid-week games (USC-Stanford in progress) were decided by 13 points; the other two by five and one ...

Arizona's 1-of-10 three-point shooting in the first half was the second worst by a CU opponent this year (Cal was 0-of-7) ... Arizona won the rebounding battle the first time (on Jan. 3) by a 36-25 mark, but the Buffs won it tonight, 31-30 ... Colorado committed just 11 turnovers, giving it 20 over the last two games, a two-game low this season... Both teams closed hot from the field, CU making 7-of-10 and UA 7-of-11 over the last 10 minutes.

The Buffaloes clicked at 50 percent or better from the field for the seventh time, and the third straight home game, finishing 25-of-50 for exactly that mark ... Colorado shot 59.1 percent in the second half (13-of-22), the seventh time this year the Buffs have shot 50 percent or better in the second stanza; CU is 6-1 in those games (only loss: at Arizona, when it shot 15-of-24, or 62.5).

SERIES With today's win, Colorado now leads the series with Arizona by an 11-6 count (CU has won three of five encounters with both as Pac-12 member and leads 7-2 in Boulder). CU's 13-point margin of victory is its largest since winning 91-74 in Boulder on Dec. 17, 1966.

  • Tad Boyle-coached teams are now 3-2 against the Wildcats. He is now 65-33 in two-plus seasons at Colorado (and 42-5 in Boulder).

BEST HOME RECORD / 50-GAME SPANS Colorado is 10-1 at home this year, and when counting back over the last 50 home games, the Buffaloes have posted their second-best record ever over a 50-game span:

INDIVIDUAL LINER NOTES

XAVIER JOHNSON (19 PTS, 9 REB) The true freshman from Los Angeles (Mater Dei) had a career-high 19 points, eclipsing the 18 he scored in CU's last home game against Cal; in his last three home games he is averaging 16.0 points on 19-of-27 FG shooting. He matched his first half career best for scoring with 12 points (on 5-7 FG/2-3 FT), his second most for any half, and tied for his second most boards in a either half (5).

ANDRE ROBERSON (7 PTS, 13 REB, 2 STL) With 13 rebounds, he now has 978 career rebounds (280 this season); he moved into second place all-time, passing Cliff Meely (971 from 1968-71). He now trails only Stephane Pelle (1,054 from 1999-2003). The 280 boards are the 14th most in a single-season, of which he also owns the most (401 last year) and 297 in 2010-11. Meely and Shaun Vandiver (1988-91) are the only others in the top 15 three different seasons. He is now averaging 11.7 per game (280 in 24 games), second nationally entering tonight.

SPENCER DINWIDDIE (21 PTS, 7 AST) He scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games for the second time in his career (had a run of three straight earlier this season); it was his sixth 20-plus point career game. He was 9-of-9 from the free throw line, the seventh time in his career he was perfect with five or more tries and the most he has attempted without a miss; for the season, he is 129-of-162 (a team-best 79.6 percent). He added a career-high seven assists as well, topping six he had on two previous occasions.

  • Coming off the Oregon State game where he set the record for the most points ever in a CU "Perfect Game" (24; 6-6 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 8-8 FT) he made 16 straight shots (6 FG/10 FT): he missed his last two shots at Oregon and made his first two tonight before missing a tip on an offensive rebound. He has now made 18 consecutive free throws.
