Players Mentioned
Colorado, Oregon Quotes
February 08, 2013 | Men's Basketball
University of Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle
General
"It was just a street fight, and we tried to prepare our guys for that.
We knew it was going to be physical, Oregon is a physical team. We talked about
their offensive rebounding, we didn't do a great job of that, but you know what
when we had to we got stops. I'm really, really proud of our players, to win
when you don't play your best. To win ugly, you have to do it at some point of
the year, you just do, and multiple times sometimes because it is not always
going to be pretty."
On Defensive
Performance
"Well, it was terrific and it was terrific when it had to be terrific
and that was down the stretch. I can't say enough about the job Spencer
[Dinwiddie] did and Andre [Roberson] did defensively. You could just tell with
our team, they were dialed in at timeouts in the huddle. We had fouls to give
and we were talking about giving a foul or two at the end, but we didn't really
have a chance to and Spencer got a good hand in Singler's face and we came away
with the rebound."
On Maturation Of
Team
"It was a huge step (tonight). And I saw it in Andre's eyes, I saw it in
Spencer's eyes, you could just feel it. This is when the leaders have to step
up, and I heard Andre's voice in the huddles and the put-back he had was
reminiscent of the (Pac-12) tournament last year in the quarter finals when he
got a put-back to beat Oregon and he did it again tonight. The feeling between winning
and losing shouldn't be as wide as it is, but I guess that is just the way it
is and I don't think that is ever going to change unfortunately. But, boy, it's
sweet to come out with a win when you don't play your best. Because you know there
is room for improvement, and we beat a top-20 team on their home floor and broke
a big time winning streak. Again, all the credit goes to our players."
On Maintaining
Energy For Sunday
"Absolutely, we don't want to waste it, and we talked about that, not
too much, but we will talk about it in the next few days. I'm glad that we don't
play until Sunday. As gut-wrenching as that Utah loss was, it may have done
this team some good, because maybe they now understand the importance of being
dialed-in every possession throughout the entire game. Because, I thought we
played hard tonight, we didn't play well, but we played hard. If we do that, we're
going to be OK."
To The Fans
"To the people at home, we need
to make sure we take care of Oregon State and there is a lot of good basketball
left in this team this year."

On
Physicality Of The Game
"Yeah, I think it was more like a football game
actually. But they were consistent on both sides, and that's all you can ask of
the refs."
On
Mental Toughness Needed To Win
"I think if we took anything away from the Utah
game, besides the bitter taste of defeat, is that if you just keep pushing, and
hammering, and playing together as a team and just believe then anything is
possible. And I know that sounds cliché but it's very true and if you continue
to play together as a team, then anything is possible."
On
Maturation Of Team
"I mean for sure, you have to learn from both
success and failure, and every game is going to teach us something. We all have
different roles, and sometimes it's hard to lead out there. But it is something
you have to try to do, and try to pull together the team, and just play
together really. Because, that is the only way we can win, nobody can do it by
themselves. It's like the old saying, 'you are more powerful as a fist than
five fingers'.
On
Defensive Performance
"Well, we knew that we gave up layups in the first
half that we shouldn't have done, including some dunks of the spectacular
nature. We knew that if we could take those away, it wasn't like they were
bombing (threes) from deep, so we knew that their field goal percentage would
drop accordingly."
