Colorado-Oregon State Quotes

February 08, 2013 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General
“That was a tough game. It was hard fought. Oregon State did a good job of not letting us get a consistent rhythm throughout the game. I thought how we responded in different parts of that game really allowed us to get ahead. When we were able to get up by 14 or 15, I thought that helped us as we got down the stretch. We knew they were going to keep fighting; that was one thing we knew they did really well in previous games. So, I'm proud of how we responded and that we didn't back down. I liked how aggressive we were on the offensive end. Defense was obviously a key for us tonight, as was offensive rebounds.”

On Oregon State's Jamie Weisner
“Weisner is tough. She plays hard, she is physical and she never quits. She is a hard match-up for anyone in the league. So, you have to give her a lot of credit. She kept them in the game.”

On Shutting Down Their Starters
“We played our normal defense to a t. We were aggressive, we made sure that they didn't get any easy looks and we made them work for every opportunity they got. For the most part we also did a good job of limiting them to just one shot, especially down the stretch.”

On Forcing 72 Turnovers The Last Three Games
“We are in better position and we understand our opponents' offense better. We are being a little more aggressive. Tonight we trapped some of the on-ball screens and I thought that really hurt them because it disrupted what they were going to do. I just think our overall effort has forced the turnovers. We are everywhere on the floor and as an offense that is tough to play against because you never seem like you are open. When you never seem like you're open you are more likely to turn over the ball looking for pass or dribbling.”

On Chucky Jeffery
“I thought Chucky had a pretty slow start and really came on in the second half and led us. I liked the way she managed the game tonight. I thought she did a nice job in the first half of really pushing the tempo and getting us going. In the second half I thought she slowed the game down when we needed to and worked some clock. Defensively she was solid. We talked to her this week about being more solid defensively because we felt like in previous games she could be a liability when she didn't have to be. So, I thought defensively she really stepped up, especially in the second half. Her overall game tonight was outstanding and I think the best thing she did was kept our team calm and confident. At no point did she ever get rattled, which I thought was helpful.”

On Jen Reese
“Jen just kept it simple tonight. She needed to get back to playing defense. She has been a really good defender this year and hasn't been a liability until the past few games. I think she let that get to her confidence a bit, so we challenged her to step up and be the defender that she is capable of being. She got some deflections, she got some steals, she did a great job on the boards and it started because of her defense. Defense is something that you can control and I think she was worrying a lot about things that she couldn't necessarily control. She also did a nice job of keeping things simple on offense just by posting up deep and being a little more physical. I thought she came in with the right mentality. She came in with something to prove and wanted to get back on track for us. So, I thought she played great.”

On Importance Of Coming Out Of The Half Strong
“It has been important. You want to go into the locker room well and you want to come out of it well. It sets the tone for the rest of the game. I liked how we came out of the locker room today and I liked how we played in the middle of the second half as well; sometimes I think that's as important. To be able to put the foot on the gas pedal and go from the start of the second half is important and I thought it helped us win the game.”

Chucky Jeffery, Sr., G

On The Importance of the Win: It's important to take care of the home court and we've been working on being enthusiastic and encouraging each other and I think that helped a lot especially coming off a good road win against USC.

On Breaking Records: I mean it does but at the end of the day I'm just glad that my team won I just do what I can to help my team get a win and that's just what I do and I guess all that comes with it but I'm happy that that's happening.

On Her High Scoring Game: I just think that there were certain ways that they were guarding me, they were giving me certain things that I like so I just kept being aggressive getting to the rim as much as I could shooting the ball and coming off screens so I was just looking for my shot when I had it and when I didn't I passed it off to the next player.

On Oregon State: Oregon State is a good team they hustle and they scrap the entire game and they wernt going to go away so we knew we had to go on a run and get it up a little bit, and after coming out of that timeout we got it up to 14 and then we pushed it up a little bit and I think that was huge for us to get this win.

Brittany Wilson. Jr., G

On CU's defense: Anytime we can hold a team under 50 that's a great thing to do. We're one of the nation's best defensive teams and we all take a lot of pride in that and of course I take pride in guarding whoever the other team's best offensive guard is and I think we're clicking and we're playing well together and playing great defense and I think it's a great thing.”

On the forced turnovers: Just getting hands on balls, a lot of tips, we could have had more than that. We were aggressive to loose balls, it was breast cancer week and coach talked about attacking, because that's what women with breast cancer do they have to attack, they have to fight so we came down we attacked we came after loose balls and I think that's what forced all those turnovers.

On Jamie Weisner: She's just a scrappy player. She hit a ton of shots, our hands were up she's just a great player who hit great shots you have to give it to her she hit tough shots down the end, she tried to keep her team in it, she dived on the ground, she went after rebounds, she did everything she could to keep her team in it. Great freshmen player, she'll be great and hats off to her.

Jen Reese, So., F

General: They're a feisty team, we knew that going in. I feel like we came out and threw the first punch, then they had their run, then we came back so it was an up and down game but overall I think we did a great job.

On Her Performance: I just knew coming in I had to do really well on defense to get my offense going, with the help of my teammates encouragement and me encouraging them as well I think that helped everyone and our flow of the game and everything.

On The Future: It's very important, that's our goal to get to the NCAA tournament and having it here is great and we have a great shot if we keep playing the game we've been playing and not losing any more games in conference and then playing in the Pac-12 and getting another shot at Stanford and Cal would be great.
