March 23, 2013 | Men's Basketball

TEAM NOTES

  • CU fell to 10-14 in the NCAA Tournament and is now 1-4 against Illinois all-time (first-ever meeting in the NCAA Tournament).  The Buffs dropped to 6-6 in NCAA Tournament lid-lifters.
  • The Buffs are 4-2 (.667) on a neutral court this season and are 9-3 (.750) since last year's Pac-12 Tournament in Los Angeles.
  • CU had two freshmen (Xavier Johnson and Josh Scott) in the starting lineup, an NCAA Tournament first for the Buffs.
  • The six first-half three-pointers allowed by Colorado are the most since Hartford hit seven on Dec. 29. Illinois didn't hit its first three-pointer until the 11:50 mark of the first half, but six of its next eight field goals were treys.
  • Illinois closed the first half on a 13-0 run.
  • Third time Colorado has trailed by double-digits at the half this season, and the second in a row (at Kansas on Dec. 8, vs. Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament).  The Buffs dropped both previous contests.
  • The Buffs' 16-point halftime deficit was their second largest of the season. They trailed Kansas by 21 at the break on Dec. 8.
  • CU opened the second half on a 23-2 run and scored 21 straight points during that stretch, the second-longest run in program history. The longest was 24 points against Valparaiso on Nov. 27, 1989 (93-53 win).
  • The Buffs pulled ahead (40-39) at the 10:36 mark of the second half on a Josh Scott bucket and led by as many as four points.
  • Illinois turned the ball over nine times in the second half after managing three in the first half.
  • CU held the Illini to 2-for-15 shooting from beyond the arc in the second half (13.3 percent).
  • Colorado shot 17-of-51 from the field (33.3 percent), its second-worst shooting performance of the season. The Buffs went 15-of-65 from the floor (23.1) against Cal on March 2.
  • Colorado failed to score 50 points for just the third time this season. They are 1-2 in those contests.
