CU-Arizona Post Game Quotes
January 24, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle
General
“We did a good job of battling back, even in the first half we cut it to six, but we couldn't get over that hump because they are an explosive team. But our guys battled, I thought that was a sign of progress on the road, we didn't fall apart. To me the tail of the game is our 16 turnovers. They got 24 layups, we want that number to be seven or less, and they had 24. Part of that was our turning it over, because if you turn it over against these guys they are so fast and athletic and good in transition. First half we didn't do a very good job on the offensive boards, or taking care of it. But in the second half we did a better job on the boards, [Arizona] only had two offensive rebounds in the second half, I thought we rebounded the ball better. So, there are some positive things we can take from this, but we have to be a better executing team offensively on the road. When the crowd gets into it, we have to be able to handle that, and tonight we didn't.”
On Arizona's Home Court Advantage
“From the starting lineups until the end of the game this crowd is into it. That's no excuse. We have to learn to win in environments like this, but when you leave a game like this, you have to build on the positives. We all know what the negatives are – and you can't ignore those – I'm not saying that's the right thing to do, but we have to build on the positives because we have to bounce back you have no time to feel sorry for yourself; we won the second half and that's a sign of progress. But, the first half we dug ourselves a whole and we're down 15 at the half against a good team – and listen, they're a good team, and to beat a good team, you better play good. Our defense I thought was good enough, but we gave up 24 layups. Our guys battled, we have a competitive group of guys, and for that I'm proud of them. But, we have to be a better offensive executing team on the road.”
On Xavier Johnson's Performance
“X. Johnson plays well against these guys, there's something about Arizona that he gets up for the game, he gets amped for the game, and that's a good thing but we need that every time he steps on the floor. Again, we have to bounce back, Saturday is a big game. It's something we have to talk a lot about between now and Saturday at 5:00 to get ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally ready to play against Arizona State.”
