CU-ASU Post Game Quotes

January 25, 2014 | Men's Basketball

General

“We let our frustrations get the better of us tonight, and you know there were some things that we talked about after the Arizona game, there were some things to build on, tonight is one of those nights where there's not much to build on other than saying, 'you know what we got to get back to the square one and get better'. The message to our team though is: things aren't ever as good as they seem when they are going well, there is fine line between winning and losing, and today there wasn't a fine line it was a pretty wide gap. But, on the other hand it's never as bad as it seems in a game like this. But, we weren't ourselves at the free throw line, we weren't ourselves rebounding the ball, we got out-rebounded, we didn't defend, and I told our team we've got to figure out a way, and we have to be mentally tough enough to win this game 51-50, and right now we are not there. We're not there mentally, we're not there physically. So we got to get there, we got to grind it out, there are a lot of areas we have to get better at. But, you know I believe in our guys, we've got good players, we've got a good team, we've got a good system, you know, it's proven itself. But, right now you put all the factors together, the lack of defense, the lack of rebounding, and poor free throw shooting, 19 turnovers on the road, you're going to get blown out.”

On Having A Young Team
“It doesn't do any good to scream and yell right now, because we are so young and we have so many guys in the locker room right now that this is new to. Jaron Hopkins, this is new to him, Wesley Gordon, this is new to him, George King – it's new to him. We need a guy like Ben Mills to step up, because he has been through it all.”

On Offensive Struggles
“We've tried a lot of different things offensively, but it comes down to making good decisions with the basketball and taking good shots, and there's been some issues. The bad shots are my fault, because I allow them. The turnovers, it's hard to know how to fix that other than have your players watch film and understand how to make the easy play. We have some work to do, and we will.”
