Head Coach Linda Lappe

Opening Statement
“I like how our team responded tonight, definitely. We had some really good stretches and not so good stretches but in the end we hit some great shots and made some key passes and got some stops and rebounds on the defensive side.”

On Team's Response From Friday's Loss At USC
“I'm really proud of how we responded after the USC loss. We could have gone a couple different directions, and we were confident. We've been in this scenario before and we wanted to make sure we split on the road.”

On What Changed From Friday
“I liked how we came out in the first half. We moved the ball much, much better on the offensive side. We're at our best when everybody touches the ball in the possession. We go inside, we go outside. We have a lot of players that can score so we all need touches and we all need to be moving. I thought against their zone, Jen (Reese) especially, Jamee (Swan), Arielle (Roberson) all did a nice job filling the middle gap. Our guards did a nice job hitting them where they could score or at least get good shots. I think we got great shots all night long, sometimes they were falling sometimes they weren't, But just in general I liked our overall demeanor, our overall presence, our confidence, I liked that overall much better tonight.”

On Momentum Change In Second Half
“I felt like we were pretty tentative there for the first 12, 13 minutes of the second half. We were pressing; we were turning the ball over entirely too much in one segment. We just weren't being tough. We weren't being first to all the 50-50 balls, we weren't getting rebounds; we were being pretty lackadaisical with our passing. You've got to give UCLA credit, they upped their pressure and did some good things defensively, but felt like it was more us. So we called a timeout just so we could regroup and challenge our team to be a little bit stronger, a little bit tougher, be the aggressors. We're at our best when we're aggressive. We talked about if they want to run and jump and trap we should take advantage of that and put them on their heels. I felt about the six-and-one-half minute mark we changed, we regained our composure and were getting some good shots. The thing I liked about today's game is we didn't get our lead back in a two minute span. It took six minutes to get our lead back. I liked our steadiness and our patience and just our resiliency to come back little by little, regain the lead and then keep it at the end,

GENERAL - “It's a game of runs, they are going to make theirs, we're going to make ours. It comes down to who is going to make the final run. I think our defense in the end helped us out a lot. They didn't get a 3-pointer off, we were going to let them score the two if necessary, knocking down shots and  hitting free throws were a big thing. I feel like we did better on free throws in this game.”

ON TEAM NOT PANICKING - “No one did that, you can't really panic at all. We have to stay composed. When we huddle we talk about what is going to happen next, what are going to be the plays if someone is out of control we calm them down.

Brittany Wilson, Sr., G
ON CONFIDENCE AFTER WIN - “We already have a lot of confidence but it does give us more reassurance that we can come back and win a game after a loss. Like coach said you never win the war after one battle. We came out and did our part. We got down unfortunately, you never like to see that, give them the lead, but I think the whole time we kept our composure and bounced back, took the lead and ended up on top.”
