Hogg Picks Up CU Athlete Of The Week Honors

BOULDER-- The University of Colorado junior Kahlia Hogg (soccer) earned CU Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday for their play during the week of October 6-12.

Hogg scored two goals for the Buffaloes in the game's final 15 minutes as CU came back to defeat the Ducks 2-1 in Eugene, Ore. Colorado was trailing 1-0 until the 75th minute when she scored the equalizer and recorded her third goal of the year. Only 12 minutes later, she knocked in the game-winning goal off a rebound. The goal was her fourth of the season and second game-winner in 2014. It was her first multi-goal match of the season and it allowed the Buffs to sweep their weekend road trip for the first time since joining the Pac-12 Conference in 2011. Colorado improved to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in Pac-12 play.

This was the first award of the season for Hogg.

Also nominated for this week's honor: Natalie Vivaldi (women's golf) and Taylor Simpson (volleyball).

Vivaldi, sophomore, had her best tournament of the season thus far, finishing tied for 22nd in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational held at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. She recorded a 72-80:152 or eight-over par in the 36-hole event. She led the Buffs in the first round, shooting an even-par 72 with four birdies and was one of only nine players in the field to card an even-par round or better through the first 18 holes. The Oceanside, Calif. native's strong performance helped the Buffaloes finish in fifth place at 32-over par as a team.

Simpson, senior, led the Buffs to a 1-1 weekend on the road which included a 3-1 upset of No. 17 UCLA. She recorded 21 kills in the win and hit .415. She also served up two aces, recorded 11 digs and posted three block assists. In the loss to No. 20 USC, Simpson had 12 kills and hit .310 in three sets. She had 11 digs and a block as well. On the week, Simpson averaged 4.71 kills per set, 3.14 digs per set, 0.57 blocks per set, 0.43 aces per set and hit .371. The volleyball team is currently 11-7 overall (3-3 Pac-12). The win against UCLA is the first ranked road-win for the Buffs in Pac-12 play.
