Tennis Finishes Strong At Wild West Shootout

DENTON, Texas – The University of Colorado women's tennis team wrapped up the three-day Wild West Shootout on Sunday winning four of six matches hosted by North Texas University.
Freshman Tina Bokhua bid to win the Green Singles Main Draw bracket fell short Sunday, falling to UT Arlington's Elizabeth Thoms, 6-1, 6-4. Bokhua was the lone CU player who advanced on day one of the tournament and kept her momentum going to Sunday's final.
In the White Singles consolation bracket, Alexandra Aiello and sophomore Nuria Ormeño Ruiz each won for the second time in as many days. Aiello defeated Tiffany Tran (Air Force) 6-3, 6-1 for her fifth fall win and 24th career tally.
Ormeño Ruiz defeated former CU teammate Dhany Quevedo of Stephen F. Austin, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Ormeño Ruiz's win was her fourth of the fall campaign, 24th career and her fifth time rallying from a set down to achieve victory.
In doubles, the Buffaloes clinched a pair of victories as Bokhua and senior Ashley Tiefel defeated Malena Gordo and Valeria Terentyeva (Stephen F. Austin), 8-2 in the Green Doubles consolation round, as did Aiello and Ormeño Ruiz taking an 8-2 winner over Amy Leiu/Alex Rodriguez (North Central Texas College) 8-2 in the White Doubles Bracket.
Colorado wraps up the fall season at the Dick Vitale Invitational in Orlando this Friday through Sunday, while senior Julyette Steur and freshman Kyra Wojcik travel to the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. from November 6-9.
The CU pair earned the Mountain Region automatic berth winning the doubles bracket Oct. 19 in Albuquerque.
