Colorado-Utah Quotes

November 29, 2014 | Football

Colorado Head Coach Mike MacIntyre

General
"I give a lot of credit to Utah.  They're a good football team and played well.  I thought our kids played hard and came up a little short again.  I felt extremely sad for those seniors who gave all that they had.  I do feel 100 percent that they have built a foundation and taught these young men how to fight, fight, fight and keep battling.  We're getting closer and eventually we'll pop through and keep climbing that mountain, get through the clouds and it'll roll like dominoes.  We have to keep working in spring and summer.  I can't tell you how proud I am of those seniors and how they bought in to everything and how their attitude has always been phenomenal."

On Learning How to Win as the Next Step
"Yes and the way that you learn how to win is to have the right fundamentals, the right situations and play through them as well as do your job well in tense situations.  We haven't done that all across the board, with coaches and players we have to do that more consistently when you're playing excellent football teams.  We'll find a way to do that as we keep maturing and growing, but you have to focus under pressure."

On Liufau's Interception Returned for a Touchdown
"He was throwing a screen pass and he missed the guy to the outside.  It floated outside and their guy just saw it and picked it."

On Liufau Having Moments of Struggle During his Record-Setting Season
"It's tough.  He's a young man that battles and fights.  I do feel for him and we just have to keep pushing.  It is tough because he's a guy that makes a lot of plays for us."

On Utah's Fake Punt
"We didn't contain it correctly.  It was a big play for a momentum change.  It really hurt us how we lined up and played it."

On Utah Overloading the Line for the Fake Punt
"They've done that before.  That's how they punt is to overload and run to that side, but they ran to the backside and we didn't contain it correctly.  That's a little thing that ended up being a big thing, so we have fix and correct and coach it better."

On Recruiting for Next Year
"We've been doing a good job recruiting right now.  We have quite a few commitments that want to be here at the University of Colorado, want to play in the Pac-12 and see our new building.  They understand how much better we're getting.  The train is going in the right direction.  I'd like to move it a little faster, but I definitely think it's going in the right direction.  It's like getting on a roller coaster.  Last year's group just buckled into the roller coaster and crept up the hill a little.  This group has crept up the hill farther.  Eventually, we'll be on the other side going downhill and we'll be waving our hands and enjoying all of the moments."

On Being the First CU Team in 99 Years to go Winless in Conference
"All that it means to me is that we went 0-9 in conference.  We played our a---s off, excuse my language, in a lot of games.  We were a lot closer in our Pac-12 games this year than last year.  We'll punch through and start winning a lot of games."

On Experience Helping Sefo Liufau to Protect the Ball
"I hope so.  [The interception today] was one of those one's that typically just hits the ground, but their corner did a good job of seeing it.  I have to look at it on film, I couldn't tell if he got bunched up when coming out of the backfield."

On Barely Coming Up on the Losing End Again
"I think that the word I'd use is 'gut-wrenching.'  When you look in the eyes of those young men and see how down they are, but they keep fighting and pushing.  I believe to turn anything around in anything that you do takes hope, passion and endurance, and endurance is the biggest thing.  If you can endure, then you'll keep your hope and passion alive.  There are a lot of gut-wrenching things that happen along the way.  It takes a little of iron-sharpens-iron in a way.  I believe that we're getting there.  I believe in those young men and I believe in that coaching staff."

On Having one of the Most Complete Games of the Year
"We've had a few like that this year that have been that way.   They're learning how to keep competing; now we're learning how to finish as a whole group.  I'm including the coaches and all of us in this.  We'll find a way to do it, but I do feel that we played hard and did a lot of good things.  We screwed up a couple of things that ended up being big plays for them, which we can't have happen, but they made some plays also."

Utah Head Coach Kyle Wittingham

General
"Well I'm happy for our seniors and for the whole team overall. It's been a tough year, real difficulty this year and they kept fighting and finding ways to get it done. It wasn't a perfect season by any means and we have a lot of things we got to get better at, things we're not there yet with, but as far as taking steps forward. I don't think there is any question about that, end up 8-4 for the regular season, winning Pac-12 record for the first time since we joined the conference. So a lot of things we can build on off this season. We got to get better. The conference itself is a moving target and so we got to get better at a faster rate than everyone else."

On The Overall Series Against CU Since Joining The Pac-12
"They got all our respect. I said earlier in the week, a rivalry to me has some bad blood, there's some ill feelings, right now it's just mutual respect on both sides and I think it's been a great series so far, still young in its fourth year."

On The Interception Returned For A Touchdown
"I told the whole defense, 'You got no chance to get a takeaway.' I said 'You guys cannot get a takeaway.' I got right in their face and said 'You don't got what it takes' and he [Dominque Hatfield] got ticked. So how is that for a series and he made the play. The two plays of the game were probably the fake punt, because we were stopped on the opening possession of the second half which is a real momentum killer, that kept the momentum and gave us the possession and then the pick six. Those were the two game breakers."

On CU's Screen Pass Tendencies
"Well we know when their screen downs are and what the tendencies are, we study that all week and our players hopefully study the same thing. We make sure to drill that into their heads. I'm not going say we weren't anticipating that but you still got to make the play and it was a great job by Dominque."

On Utah's Passing Attack
"It was nice to get the passing game on track and we were potent in the running game enough in that last drive to run the clock out, but it was good to see Travis throw for 300 yards, no interceptions I believe, got sacked a couple times but it was good to see the passing game make a major contribution. We needed that."

On What The Team Will Do In The Coming Weeks
"Sit around, go skiing, not much of anything. No, we'll bring them in and have a meeting on Monday, team meeting. We'll go back in the weight room next week. We still don't know where we're going, I guess we may not know for another week. We may get on the field towards the end of next week. All of the coaches will go out recruiting tomorrow, except for myself, I'll be there to run the team meeting Monday. Then, like I said, get them in the weight room and if we have a good idea that we are maybe going to a bowl that's earlier, then we'll start practice next week, definitely. If we think it may be an after Christmas bowl we might let them get healed up a little bit."

On The Injury Status Of DE Hunter Dimick
"It was and he just couldn't go. We think we'll have him for the bowl game whenever that is. It's not a series deal, we don't believe and there is no body on this team that's tougher than Hunter Dimick. If he can go he will and he just couldn't go today. We were hopeful, we brought him on the trip, obviously to see if he could make some progress in the last 24 hours before the game and it wasn't the case. Next man up, got to find a way, we just got to keep finding ways."

On The Performance Of DE/LB Jason Fanaika
"I mean we moved him back to defensive end for the most of this game. He's a versatile guy, he's been playing linebacker and defensive end for us all year long and he made some big plays. The reverse was a big play, when we caught the guy in the backfield, I think he had a sack or two and he's a physical player and we got him another year, that's a good thing. He just learning our system this year. He's a junior with the transfer rule but we are excited to have him on our team and see what he can do next year."

On How He Feels After Many Close Games This Year
"Well I'm getting used to it. Seems like every week has come down to the last possession or even the last play at times. We're finding ways to win most of them and that's very encouraging, because the last couple years we were just the opposite of that. We were not finishing and finding ways to win those close games."

On The Scenarios Of The Pac-12 South yesterday
"Sure did. Everything happened that had to happen except us with Arizona. Arizona is a heck of a team, they'll have beaten Arizona State and the last three losses we've had have been by top 15 teams, I don't know where Arizona State will be ranked now that they lost, but it's been a tough schedule and it was a little bit irritating when I went through that, 'That happened, that happened, that happened' but we didn't take care of business. Oh well life goes on, we got our eighth win today"

Colorado Players

WR WESLEY CHRISTENSEN
ON THE GAME – "I don't even know what the final score was honestly. 38-34? It was a tough one. We never gave up We did everything we could and got up on them going in to the half 24-16 and came out and that fake punt really hurt us a lot. There were a couple calls that needed to be reviewed three times in a row and that didn't help. It was a fun last game and emotions were high with Utah being rivals. It's just part of how it goes."

ON BEING A SENIOR – "I got here last January as a junior transfer from a junior college. I came in and a liked the way things were going. We won the state championship at my junior college. Then I came here and the way things were turning weren't the greatest. Some guys graduated and some transferred which totally changed the attitude from last season to this season. We definitely knew we could be a force this year and I think we proved that a few times it just didn't show in the win column."

ON BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM CU – "Definitely the comradery. I made some lifelong friends here. I think the character that Coach Mac's been working with us. He wants us all to be men of character and I think that's definitely one of the things I'm going to take away. Just to not stop fighting no matter what happens in life."

P DARRAGH O'NEILL
ON BEING A SENIOR – "As an individual you have to walk away with your head held high. I feel like I did everything I could for this university over the last four years. But at the same time, it's really hard winning ten games over four years. That definitely can be mentally draining on any athlete."

ON LOCKER ROOM EMOTION – "It's weird. It's kind of a "one minute you're fine" and "the next minute your mind is kind of all over the place". It's a new chapter for all of us. We just don't know what to expect so I think that's what leads to the swings. One minute you're really sad and the next minute you know you just need to move on."

C ALEX KELLEY
ON EMOTIONS TODAY – "I mean, I was really trying to play out there for the seniors. It obviously could've ended a lot better. But, I think as an offensive line we played our butts off for the seniors. Emotions are definitely up and down. It's sad that seniors are gone and the seasons over but there's a lot of hope for next season. I feel like we have improved tremendously and the under classmen feel that."

ON OFFSEASON IMPROVEMENTS – "Honestly just keep getting better. We are going to have a bunch of new young offensive linemen coming in and we just need to get the cohesiveness that we had as a unit this year going for next year. Just the little things."

DL JIMMIE GILBERT
ON DEFENSIVE STRIDES THIS SEASON – "As a defense last year teams would run all up and down us. I feel like this year we did a better job understanding where we need to fit, spill and box. We just need to do a better job of containing the football and rallying to the ball and tackling."

ON DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE TODAY – "I'm very pleased. We were able to stop them when we needed to. We could've stopped them a couple times if we just wrapped up better or pursued the ball better. But those are things that just come and go. Just one play here, and one play there. Something like that can turn a game."

ON IMPROVING FOR NEXT YEAR – "Going into next year we just have to do a better job of trusting the guy next to us and doing our job while we trust them to do their job. When we get to the point where everyone is doing what they need to do and everyone is trusting the person next to them then we're going to be an incredible team."

WR NELSON SPRUCE
ON POSITION FOR NEXT YEAR – "I feel good about it. I think offensive has been doing what we said. A lot of guys have set records this year in a lot of different positions. I think going into next year if we can keep up the same type of production but eliminate the turnovers then it's going to help a lot."

ON NOT BEING ABLE TO ENJOY RECORDS SET – "It's tough because as a player and being a part of this team the wins count first. If you're not achieving the ultimate goal it's hard to really enjoy anything else. That's been tough for me."

ON CONVERSATIONS WITH SEFO – "Right after Sefo threw that pick I told him, 'We're going to get another shot.' so he could get going, but that's about it. He's really optimistic. He always is confident no matter the situation in his abilities. He doesn't really need that but it's just something I told him."

ON SEFO'S TWO YEARS OF ELIGIBILITY REMAINING – "I think a lot of things we did offensively this year were promising for next year. He set a bunch of records and I had a few so I think as an offense we've been really productive. Just going into next year we're going to have to eliminate turnovers."

QB SEFO LIUFAU
ON THE LOSS – "It's tough. You never want to lose a game and it's tough especially losing a lot of games this year in a close game and not coming out on top. These guys are resilient. Even though our record is not what we want it to be, I wouldn't go anywhere else in the world. These guys are my brothers and they'll be my friends for the rest of my life. It's tough but I wouldn't want to do it anywhere else."

ON THE SENDING THE SENIORS OUT ON A LOSS - "[It hurts] especially when you're trying to send the seniors out right. You come home and play short. Obviously the turnover hurt us and it's just been that kind of year, having a battle the whole time. You need to just keep fighting and that's what we've done. We're going in the right direction with our team and these seniors especially have helped us lay the foundation to keep moving forward next year. We have to use this to drive us into a better year next year."

ON HIS INTERCEPTION – "It was a screen pass. I couldn't burn it at his feet because there were three or four guys around him and I led him too far outside. It cost us the game."

ON HOW THE PROGRAM IS IMPROVING - "If you've paid attention to the whole season compared to last year when we got blown out by 40 points in so many games, I don't know how you can't say that this isn't an improvement. These guys have fought. Except for one or two games, we were in each one. Last year, that wasn't the case. Last year, we were just trying to stop the bleeding in all phases. This year, we're fighting to play and we're fighting to win. We have that mentality that we can win. It is definitely a step in the right direction. The record doesn't show it but we're moving in the right direction."

ON BEING THE FIRST CU TEAM THAT HASN'T WON A CONFERENCE GAME IN 99 YEARS – "You don't want that to happen ever again. The mentality is to always win and go 1 and 0 every week. It's tough not getting a Pac-12 win but we have to use it to motivation, like we keep saying. We obviously believe we're going in the right direction and we're in these games each time, each week. We just have to keep moving forward and keep working. You can't dwell on this game for too long. I think we're going to start back up on Monday and get ready for next year. That's the mentality that you have to have and you have to have a good work ethic all off season to make sure this doesn't happen again."

ON UTAH'S PASS RUSH - "They definitely have a good pass rush. Their front seven is especially really good. They didn't do anything differently that we saw on the film. Just a couple times, we didn't hit up the blitz and I didn't make the right check. That happens in games.  Nothing different though. I wouldn't say they're better than anyone we've faced in the Pac-12 but they're definitely a good front seven."

ON HIS THOUGHTS WALKING OFF THE FIELD – "It's tough with so many losses. Especially when you fight so hard and you're in so many games with so many top teams. I just felt bad. The one mistake, the one turnover ultimately cost us the game. But, you can't dwell on this. After today you can't think about it in a negative way. We want to think of it in a positive way and push on and make sure. Football never stops. It's zero stop days a year. We're going to keep fighting and keep working."

TB CHRISTIAN POWELL
ON ALL OF THE TOUGH LOSSES THIS SEASON - "It makes the losses that much tougher. As a team, having that all season, I felt that. That just makes everyone that much more hungry to get a win. The season definitely hasn't gone the way we wanted it to but from here on out, all you can do is look forward. This could be motivation in the off season to make sure this doesn't happen next season. We want to remember all of these losses and use them."

ON HOW THE PROGRAM IS IMPROVING- "The record doesn't show that but if you're in the locker room, we're around these guys every day. There's days that you're tired, you don't want to come. But, you just have to do it. I feel like from my share to now, everybody is accepted that, they've understood that. It's a constant process that you have to constantly keep working. That's where the improvement has come from. It didn't show in the record book but it's just something that we can look forward to in the off season. Something to work on."

ON BEING THE FIRST CU TEAM THAT HASN'T WON A CONFERENCE GAME IN 99 YEARS – "It's tough. You don't want to go winless in the conference. It's a tough one to swallow. But, it happened so you have to move forward. For next year, make sure that it doesn't happen again."

ON COACH MACINTYRE'S MESSAGE AFTER THE GAME - "He was proud of us. Everybody is fighting. You didn't see anybody out there quit. I didn't see anybody out there quitting, hanging their heads. Everyone fought until the clock said zero. How could you not be proud of that? We were trying to send the seniors out right and it didn't work like that. He was proud of the team and I'm definitely proud of everybody. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else."

ON HIS PERSONAL SUCCESS TODAY - "The offensive line was making blocks. The receivers down field were blocking. You have to work with what you're given. If they're blocking for me like that, it's up to me to make the runs and that's just how I felt. Going along with that, I felt like it's easy in the last game, it's guaranteed you're not going to a bowl game, it's easy to let it slide by and just get through the game. That wasn't my mentality. I felt that there was something to play for today. It's the program. We want to show that we're going upward and to send the seniors out right. We wanted to show everyone that no matter what the situation, we're going to continue to fight. That was my mentality today."

ON HIS THOUGHTS WALKING OFF THE FIELD – "It just happened. It happened the way we didn't want it to. I was thinking about it but you can't dwell on that too long. I was upset because we lost the game but at the same time, I was proud of everybody. It was a great day. I'm proud to be a Buff. I'm proud to play with all of these guys and the seniors. We established some great relationships. That's everything. It's a bit of mixed emotions. I'm just upset at the fact that we lost but I'm proud of everything that was established these past two years."

DB TERREL SMITH
ON HIS INTERCEPTION - "I think I intercepted the ball clearly. I had my hand underneath the ball. I don't think it touched the ground whatsoever. I don't know how they reversed the call. I fully believe it was an interception. It sure was [a shift in momentum]. They got it, they got the fake punt right after it. I definitely think that was a game changer for us. I don't know. The refs need to make a better call on that play."

ON UTAH'S FAKE PUNT - "I wasn't on the field for that play. We didn't have any edge on our punt returns. It was wide open. They had four or five guys that cleared the edge on their team when they ran the fake punt. It was clearly wide open when they ran that."

ON COMING UP SHORT AGAIN - "It hurts. I got it all out after the game, this being my last game. This team has come a long away from when I first got here as a freshman. We've been getting blown out in the Pac-12 the past few years but this year, as you can see, we've made a significant change. Just to come up short again really hurts."

ON BEING THE FIRST CU TEAM THAT HASN'T WON A CONFERENCE GAME IN 99 YEARS - "I don't know how we didn't win these close games. We had to keep fighting and this definitely builds characters as a team. I feel like the younger guys will know how to win next year. We're going to get it all together and make it right for the years to come."

ON THE FACT THAT HIS CLASS BUILT THE FOUNDATION FOR THIS TEAM - "We've been talking foundation a lot. Foundation doesn't mean just winning games. It helps but we built the mentality of this team, of the younger kids. Having that fight and having that drive again, we have that. It's the first time since I don't know when. We fought to the end this year. Double OT with UCLA, double OT with Cal. Before, we never had that fight. I definitely think we built a foundation and we're going to see a much improved CU team in the future."

ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH TONY JONES - "I love him. We built a strong bond together since I've been here. Tony and I cried on the plane coming to CU, saying bye to our families. Now we're crying together. I'm definitely going to miss the guys. I picked him up in the locker room. We hugged it out and got all of our tears out. Just thinking about it is making me teary eyed right now. CU has been great to me. I'm going to definitely miss this place."

PK WILL OLIVER
ON THIS SEASON'S RECORD - "We lost a lot of close games to a lot of ranked teams. We know we're in it and that we can win. Three or four plays a game and it's that simple. Coming from being 8 and 4, it's kind of funny when you look back at it but it's the reality of it. They're going places. It's a bummer to miss that boat but this team is really going places."

ON THE CLOSE LOSSES THIS SEASON - "It's really tough. I think that that characterized our season. We were always one or two plays away and that's just the way it bounced this year. These kids have seen that. They see that we can win. The other years, we were losing 56-14. We were getting crushed so it's hard to keep kids believing then. But now, one touchdown doesn't happen and you win the game. Same thing with UCLA and Cal. This season, that's the way it's gone. These kids see how close they are and when the light at the end of the tunnel gets close, these kids will reach for it."

ON TODAY BEING HIS LAST GAME - "It's a bummer. I think it's going to be a turning point. But to have laid that foundation is gratifying for us. It hurts now to walk off the field for the last time after a loss though."

ON HIS PLAY TODAY - "I was certainly dialed in. We were excited to be out here and ready and focused for this last game. All of this sentimental stuff went on before the game and I kind of realized it was my last game. But then, at the same time, you should be playing for a bowl game theoretically. You have to get in that mindset. That's really important. Going forward, the focus needs to be on all of the time for these kids. I think it will be."

DB GREG HENDERSON
ON HIS EMOTIONS AFTER HIS LAST GAME – "I was hurting. It didn't' feel great to me at first but it's really starting to hit me now. I'm definitely going to miss playing at Folsom, playing with this group of guys. I'm always going to be a Buffalo. I'm going to watch them next year and the year after that. I'm definitely going to miss it."

ON RECEIVING THE BUFFALO HEART AWARD –"It means a lot to me. Just to know that the fans are watching a keeping up with us. We're just going to keep getting better and better. I know they're going to make it to a bowl game next year. We just do it for our fans and our families. I never even knew that it was an award but I'm grateful and blessed to have received it. I just want to thank all of the fans and everybody who voted for it. I appreciate it."

ON WHAT THIS TEAM HAS TO DO TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP – "I think it's just the little things. We're always in the right positon. We just have to make the play, do the little techniques right, get after the quarterback and just do a lot of film study. It's the little things that we have to accomplish next year."

ON HIS POST COLLEGE CAREER - "I'm going to train during the offseason and hopefully I can make it into the draft, get on with a team and show what I have. If I can prove myself, I can definitely make it. I see guys that I played with since I've grown up as a kid so I feel like that if they made it then I can make it too. I want to have an impact. The NFL is a passing league now so they definitely need all of the defensive backs that they can get. Hopefully I'll be one of the guys that they choose and show what I have and keep working every day."

ILB BRADY DAIGH
ON THE EMOTIONS OF THE DAY – "It's tough, and it's kind of been the story of the season I would say. We come out and we just don't put teams away. There were a couple ranked teams that I think we could of truly knocked off this year, and we showed that again today. That just speaks to the heart a lot of guys have on this team. These guys are my brothers and this team is one of the best I've ever been on in terms of guys fighting to the end and playing every play."

ON THE SYNERGY OF THIS TEAM – "The results are coming; I can tell you that right now. We didn't see the 'W's this year necessarily but the fight and character that the coaches instill in this team is going to win games and it's going to pay off. I wouldn't trade the last four years for anything, we didn't have as many wins as I expected when I came here but it's definitely been the best four years of my life, I've learned a lot."

ON THE SENIOR CLASS – "Some of these guys had three head coaches in five years and the other guys had two head coaches and those transitions are tough. Every day is a grind and while the win column didn't necessarily see improvements this year, I think the competiveness on the field and the fight that you see out there is pretty obvious."

RB TONY JONES
ON THE EMOTIONS HE'S DEALING WITH- "It's a lot of emotion and you don't even look at the wins and the losses, you just look at the camaraderie from my freshman year till now and just going through three coaches and being strong. Having every head coach and every coaching staff just being with you and just making sure that you forget about what happened in the past year and making sure that your are living for this year and you are doing whatever you got to do for the team. It's like you can't even talk about it because it doesn't even matter what the wins and losses are at, it just matters what this team, this locker room, these practices and coming up that hill (from the practice fields) for the last time with your brothers. It's everything that every man would ever want to do. Everybody would want to be in our shoes, and the people that aren't here, they would love to be in our shoes and they would love this family. That's the reason why I got tears, because this Colorado Buffaloes nation is definitely a family and I love it, everyone is here for you and it's just great."

Utah Players

DB/WR DOMINIQUE HATFIELD
ON WINNING PAC-12 RECORD– "Coming off the last two seasons it's a blessing to get back to a bowl game. We have been preaching it since spring ball and we believe in ourselves and believe in our coaches. We knew we were going to here."

ON TOUCHDOWN – "It was probably one of the most amazing feelings in my life, especially to do it at a time like that, a clutch moment, when we really needed it. I knew the defense had to step up and I just want to thank all of my teammates in believing in me."

ON TEAM'S DEFENSE PREFORMANCE OVERALL – "It wasn't our best day, we've definitely had better days but I still believe we are one of the toughest, most physical defenses in the Pac-12 and in the country, to be honest. Every dog has its day, we had an off first half, not even full day, went to the locker room and made minor adjustments, came out and did what we knew we could do; playing more physical in the box. We need we were going to run a little more man. The DB's had to step up; linebackers and defensive linemen they stepped up and got more physical, which I knew they do. The coaches knew they could. We just have to execute. We have to be reminded that we are the best defense in the Pac-12."

RB DEVONTAE BOOKER
ON RUNNING THE BALL EALIER VERUSES LATER ON IN THE GAME – "Early we weren't getting a great push at the beginning to get the yards out, wanted and needed but my offensive line in the second half blocked their tails off and we got this great win."

ON WINNING PAC-12 RECORD – "It's great. Coming in from last year, I wasn't playing ball or anything. For me to be here this year is extremely blissful for me and playing with this great group of guys, my teammates and coaching staff; they all just boosted me up a lot."

ON PASSING GAME THOUGHTS – "Travis [Wilson] threw the ball well today. He threw a couple passing to Kaelin [Clay] and Westlee [Tonga] wide open. Everybody was involved and when we have a great passing game, we have a good running game as well.

QB TRAVIS WILSON
ON WHAT THE WIN MEANS– "It's great, coming off of the last two years it's great to have a winning record in the PAC-12. We played a really good team today, they really came ready to play but I'm glad our offense was able to step up today."

ON THE OFFENSE STEPPING UP TODAY–"Once I knew we we're playing well, it was definitely our turn to play well for the defense. Our defense has played great so many games throughout the season so it was really our job on offense to play for them."

WR KAELIN CLAY
ON HAVING A WINNING RECORD IN PAC-12 PLAY- "Coaches wanted us to focus on getting that eighth win to finish off the PAC-12 on a high note. We went out there, we executed, we played a great Colorado team and we came out victorious."

ON THIS GAME BEING A BACK AND FORTH BATTLE- "We knew we were going to be in a dog fight. Colorado is a great team. Their record might not show it, but if you watch the video, you look at their games, they have been in a lot of close games. We felt that it would be a tough game."

DE JASON FANAIKA
ON THE DEFENSE MAKING A BIG PLAY AT THE END– "Props to Colorado, they did well. A lot of the big plays though, we were kind of shooting ourselves in the foot. We just need to eliminate the little things and everybody do their 111 and we'll be fine. Eliminate those big plays, but our defense came through today."

ON WHAT WAS DIFFERENT IN THE SECOND HALF ON DEFENSE- "We were just coming out here and showing who we are and how we do things here at Utah. That defense that we put on camera in the first half wasn't us. That's not how we do things here."
