Quotes: Georgia 64, Colorado 57
December 07, 2014 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle
On today's game..
"The scoring drought in the first half hurt, and when you couple that with the fact that we couldn't get stops either. At halftime we were down 19-9 in rebounds and they shot 54%, but in the second half we outrebounded them by 15 and we held them to 40% shooting. We just can't play only a half of basketball and expect to beat good teams. We have gotten away with that at home, but you can't get away with that on the road. That early scoring drought hurt us and failing to get stops. In the second half we couldn't get stops at critical times, we cut it to 8 or 9 and times, but then we just couldn't get the stops to cut it to 4 or 6."
Colorado Junior Forward Josh Scott
On today's game…
"We needed to play consistent for 40 minutes of basketball together, we didn't do that today, we did it in the second half, but in the first half we didn't. They had us on the boards in the first half, if we played the boards in the first half like we did the second half it may have been a different story in today's game. I am proud of our team though, we could have folded after the first half, but we didn't and we were able to get stops and rebound better."
Head Coach Mark Fox
Opening statement…
"Well that was really a hard-fought game versus a very good team that we have great respect for. I think Colorado has a terrific team and I think they're going to win a bunch of games. So for us to win the game, we feel very good about that. That was a hard-fought battle. I thought our defensive rebounding was so good in the first half that it allowed us to play from in front. We did not rebound the ball [well] in the second half and were a little disjointed after Kenny [Gaines] left the game [with injury], but certainly a great win for our team versus a very good Colorado squad."
On the team's performance at the end of the first half…
"We had some timely three point shooting and we got stops. I thought early in the game we had some turnovers that led to some baskets for them, but once we kind of got used to the battle and took care of the ball we were able to finish some plays there and give us a lead going into the half."
On how important this win was…
"That's a [postseason] resume win, there's no way around it. And to be honest with you, it's the first time in a long time that we've had a resume opportunity here at home. I think that was a big part of it. They [Colorado] are very good. They're a tournament team who will finish very high in the PAC-12 so it was a good win for us."
Georgia Sophomore Guard JJ Frazier
On his performance…
"Obviously it could have been more perfect. Defensively, I had a few lapses, not boxing out when I was supposed to. We'll have to look at the tape and see. I felt good offensively. I had a good rhythm throughout the day and earlier when I was shooting the basketball it felt good every time. I just wanted to get quality shots.
On the intensity at the end of the first half…
"We picked up the intensity for a high level game. That's how you are supposed to play for 40 minutes. That last five minutes [of the first half] really was what we were looking for the whole game."
Georgia Senior Forward Marcus Thornton
On his performance…
"[Colorado forward Josh Scott] is a very good player, an extremely good player. I think I did some good things but then again there were some other things I could have done better. I didn't rebound the ball well enough and when I don't then that trickles down to everyone else."
On this being a good win for the team's résumé…
"All games are résumé wins. You could win a game like this. All games count the same, really. It's just wins and losses, and they can help you or they can hurt you."
