CU-USC Post Game Quotes

February 17, 2014 | Men's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle

General
“We did what we had to do, but we didn't finish very strong. I think we had five turnovers after the first media timeout in the second half, so we had 12 turnovers in the last 16 minutes of the game, that's not good. But, when you do that and still find a way to win pretty much going away. There were some questionable things going on there down the stretch and we'll learn from that. Overall, we guarded in the second half, we held them to 31 percent, but we got out-rebounded. We out-rebounded this team by 20 out our place but they got us by six tonight – they took it to us. At the end, it wouldn't have been like that if we would have just gotten some rebounds on those stops, but we just couldn't. There are some things we need to improve on.”

On Offensive Performance
“Our offense has gotten a lot better over the last couple weeks, there's no question about that. But our defense and our rebounding is going to carry us and it doesn't matter if we are at home or on the road, against good teams you better have those things in check. We got the ball down to Josh [Scott] tonight, and Josh continues to evolve as a player.”

“I think we did good overall, I don't give us any negative things, but we do have to learn how to close out games. For us, we have to learn how to contain there drives and become better as a team at closing games and do what we do best, which is defense and rebounding.”

On Playing In Home State (California)
“Yeah, I love it. California is the best place on earth to me, despite what anyone else might say (laughs). Playing in Cali just gives everyone that little spark, it gives me and Askia [Booker] that little spark to play better. We lost at UCLA and that was a tough loss for us, but we just have to keep playing hard and focus on our next game.”

On Playing Well Despite Foul Trouble

“I didn't get my usual number of rebounds, but I try to just contribute as much as possible without trying to foul out because if I foul out then that just makes us one short a player, and we already have players out [due to injury] so we have to be able to keep our starters in the game and play our hardest while we're in and get the 'W'.”

On Playing Well Offensively

“I'm freeing up Askia [Booker] a lot; he creates so much attention, and then Josh [Scott] is the best big man in the Pac-12 and he is getting double-teamed every day, which just leaves me open for open shots. I'm in the gym working on my shot, so I'm just trying to knock it down opportunity.”
