Oedegaard, Swan Awarded Athlete of the Week

BOULDER - Nordic skier Rune Oedegaard and women's basketball forward Jamee Swan were awarded CU Athlete of the Week on Wednesday for their athletic accomplishments the week of Feb. 17-23.
Oedegaard, a junior from Molde, Norway (NTG Lillehammer/Molde Ski Club), won his third race of the season and the 12th of his career at the 65th Annual RMISA Championships over the weekend in Beaver Creek, Colo. Taking first in the men's 20K freestyle race with a time of 45:06.8, Oedegaard is now just one victory shy of tying the CU record for career race wins. He now has eight wins in classical races, which ranks most among men's skiers in CU history, second only to Maria Grevsgaard who had 15 classical wins between 2006-08.
Swan, a sophomore from Marana, Ariz. (Marana), had a team-high 18 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 6 steals in Colorado's comeback win over Arizona in Tucson on Sunday. A short jumper by Swan with 0.9 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime, in which the Buffs were able to erase a 20-point first half deficit to get the 61-56 Pac-12 Conference win at the McKale Center. Swan was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line, while shooting 7-of-16 from the field.
Also nominated for this week's Athlete of the Week award: Emily Hunsucker (track and field), Marie Moore (lacrosse), Ashley Tiefel (tennis), Brooke Wales (skiing), Alexandre Kizirian (track and field), Yannik Paul (men's golf) and Josh Scott (men's basketball).
Hunsucker, a senior, won the weight throw at the Joe Davies Open on Saturday, recording a personal best of 57-9. Hunsucker won the meet by more than three inches as the runner-up, Adam's State's Mikaela Hoelsken recorded a throw of 54-3.75.
Moore, a freshman midfielder, helped Colorado to a split weekend against in-state opponents. Against No. 18 Denver, Moore tied a team-high four draw controls while leading the squad with two goals off of five shots. She contributed two more goals in CU's inaugural home opener on Saturday at Folsom Field. Moore was the last Buff to score against Regis before the break, helping CU to a 6-4 lead at halftime. She scored again just over three minutes into the second half, helping CU to a 13-10 victory.
Tiefel, a junior, clinched her first ever team victory in Colorado's 4-2 upset over No. 54 Wichita State. It was the Buffaloes second upset victory over a ranked opponent in three days after upsetting No. 57 Denver, 4-3 on Friday. Against the Pioneers, Tiefel and junior teammate Julyette Steur defeated DU's Schnell/Dunn, 8-0.
Wales, a sophomore, earned her first podium appearance in slalom action, taking third with a time of 1:21:05 at the 65th Annual RMISA Championships. With the victory, she was one of 12 CU ski team members to advance to the NCAA Championship in Utah, held March 5-8.
Kizirian, a senior, placed seventh overall in the weight throw at the USA Indoor Championships on Saturday, finishing with a mark of 67 feet, 4.75 inches, tying his second best mark of season.
Paul, a freshman, led the Buffaloes in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate with a a 66-74-70:210 scorecard (6-under par). He tied for fifth individually and helped the Buffaloes to a second place finish, three strokes behind champion Oregon. He was the tournament's individual leader after a first round 66 and entered the final round tied for 12th. He had an eagle, 11 birdies and 35 pars on the weekend against just seven bogeys and tied for third among the 128-man field in par-5 scoring, as he played the dozen of those at 7-under par. He helped Colorado tie for its best individual round team score (272 in the first round) and tie for its second best-ever tournament score (840, or 24-under par).
Scott, a sophomore forward, averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in Colorado's 1-1 week with a home win over Arizona State and a senior day loss to Arizona. Scott scored 13 points with 13 rebounds, two blocks and a steal in CU's 61-52 win over the Sun Devils. Against the No. 4 Wildcats (88-61), Scott came off the bench scoring a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds. He also made 15-of-16 free throws (.938) over the two games, in addition to averaging one steal and one block.
