CU-CAL Post Game Quotes

March 08, 2014 | Men's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle

General
“It's disappointing one team had to lose that game, both teams really competed hard, played with a lot of energy and I really have a lot of respect for [Cal head coach] Mike Montgomery and their players – some of which we tried really hard to recruit. We came up a little bit short, we had our chances though, our guys battled and I'm really proud of our effort. All the things we talked about after the Utah game that we didn't have, we had tonight…the mental toughness, perseverance. We had a good look at the end though, [Xavier] Talton had a good look and he's a good shooter, we'll take that shot. In the second half we we're just a couple stops away, offensive rebounds – they had 10 offensive rebounds in the second half and we just couldn't corral a couple of those rebounds. [Cal] didn't score a basket in overtime, they got everything at the free throw line and we normally shoot more free throws and we did tonight, but that's life on the road.”

On Message To The Team
“The message is we're right there. We're right in the game, but the ball bounces this way or that way, we win this game; a shot goes in for us and it doesn't for them and we win this game. It (Defense and rebounding) doesn't guarantee that you're going to win every game, but it puts you in a position to win every game, and we we're in position to win tonight's game. I love our team, and I love their focus and effort tonight, their will to win and it's really disappointing because we wanted to make history tonight with our 22nd regular season win which would have broken the school record and we didn't we tied it. We've still had a heck of a year, but now we have to move forward and have a short memory. We have to turn the page and get mentally ready to go win four games in four days.”

On Feelings Heading Into Pac-12 Tournament
“Absolutely I do [feel good about where the team is at] with this kind of effort. You come on this Stanford-Cal road trip and it's not an easy one; we've been on the road for a while. We have to be ready to go, and we will be ready to go. You just have to win that first one and live to see another day because it's win or go home. Our guys have to understand that and take it to heart and we will. It should be a heck of a tournament in Las Vegas.”
