CU-CSU Quotes

August 22, 2014 | Soccer

Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez

General
“That's the first half. We were okay but I think we were a little impatient in the final third of the second half. We created a few chances, a few well deserved goals but to dial it back a second, for the second year for Colorado State, I thought they had lots of quality possession. They had a couple decent chances but we're very happy with this result and I think that Colorado State is going to get some results this year, non conference and once again, conference play.”

On What Went Well
“Scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in soccer and we were creating enough chances that I thought we'd do it but at 0-0, 1-0, all it takes is one nick, one corner, one free kick, and they're back in it. Defensively, I thought we did a good job, and I thought we created a lot of quality opportunities and got a couple so it's a good start, but plenty to work on for sure.”

On The Game Difficulties
“They were a little frustrated in the first half and I think sometimes when you create those chances that don't go, you start to hang your head and stop creating chances. But I told them, if you keep creating chances, stuff is going to happen. Their keeper made a couple of really nice saves to keep them in the game when it was 0-0 and 1-0. When we got the second goal, we were able to calm down a little but. But until then, that was the 17th minute, until we got that goal. So, we're pleased with the result but a lot of credit to CSU. I thought they played very well.”

On Brittney Stark's Opening Game
“I think that it's the early part of the season so we're going to see who can help us. THere's one thing to get it done today and there's another thing to get it done in Pac-12 play. But she [Brittany Stark] has shown some flashes and done some nice things. So, we're glad she got a goal, it's a hard thing to do, and hopefully she can build off of it.”

On Goal Keeper Kate Scheele
“I thought her [Kate Scheele] was good and her distribution was good. In her organization in the front, I think most of the credit goes to the back four. I thought they were good when we had to sub some players in. But Kate did a good job but we know that there's going to be matches when she's tested a little bit more.”

On The CSU Rivalry
“At the end of the day, it's CSU and CU. We haven't been playing them for 100 years in football, or whatever it's been but it's a pretty good stat. Next year when we open up at their place in Fort Collins, I expect more of the same.”

On Bianca Jones' Injury
“I think she [Bianca Jones] got a little bit of blood on her head. It was in her hair so I'm not sure but she was fine. It was the end of the first half but we got her taken care of and she played well in the second half.”

Colorado Forward Brittney Stark

On Her College Debut
“I'm very excited. There's nothing better than actually getting to score a goal, especially in my first collegiate game. It was a good experience and I'm glad that I got such good service, especially from Maddie, and I'm lucky that I have such good teammates to prepare such good balls and make me feel comfortable.”

On A Collegiate Game
“It was exciting. It was fast paced. That's one of the newest things I have to get used to; the quickness of the game. It's a lot of running but our coaches have done a really good job preparing us. We do a lot of running off the field and like I said, I have good teammates. They help set you up, get you into the game quickly. They make you comfortable and mistakes are never killer so it's always good.”

On The Scoring Drought
“I think it's always frustrating when you're creating such good opportunities towards a goal but once you get that first one in, it's like the floodgates open. So, kudos to Brie [Hooks] for getting that first one in because that's the hardest one to break.”

On The CSU Rivalry
“It's fun. It's CSU. It's a rivalry. It's always fun to play. this is my first game on this field but I'm looking forward to many more. It's such a pretty field and such a great environment to be in. I'm really looking forward to it. I had an amazing first game and I'm excited.”

Colorado Forward Brie Hooks

On The Slow Start
“I mean first half was a little bit frantic, first game jitters. It was nice to get that first goal second half and finally settle in and relax a bit.”

On Her First Goal
“I think it calmed us down. Even if it's 1-0, when you get that first goal, you kind of get that deep breath. You can relax and get the ball on your foot and pass around the ball.

On Team Talent
“Every game, soccer's weird, you can come out and they could have easily beat us on this field. It's whoever comes to play and I think we did come to play that second half. We really came out and showed what we can do. We've been working really hard this preseason and we're trying to get back to where we were last season so we just have to build for this.”

On The Offense
“I was really pleased [with our offense]. We have so much depth up top, so many people that are versatile and can play anywhere. So, it's nice to have so many people that can go in so many different places. When I play those balls in, or Maddie [Krauser] plays those balls in, we can trust that hopefully, someone's going to get on the end of one of them.”
