CU-UNC Quotes

Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez

Overall Thoughts On The Game
“The big picture is that you want the result, and we got the result, one, nothing. But, a lot of credit goes to Northern Colorado. The first half, we played very well. We didn't get the goal, they [UNC] could have folded when we scored in the 61st minute, but I thought the last 30 minutes was them. They hit the bar and had a chance and had other good chances around the box but for whatever reason, the energy and the focus wasn't there enough. I put that on the coaching staff. They weren't ready to go today for whatever reason and we need to be better. We need to finish but in the same sense we need more of a consistent focus. The focus wasn't there today.”

On Northern Colorado's Almost Goal
“We headed the ball backwards and they have a fast enough forward. Kate [Scheele] came out and cut off the angle a little bit. That is the goal you see go in a lot of times so we were fortunate that it didn't go in. Had this game gone into overtime, I don't know which way it would have gone. Again, a lot of credit to Northern Colorado. You can see how they beat Colorado College 3-2 on Friday. They [UNC] gave us all we had to handle and what's disappointing for us is that once we got that goal, we didn't build the energy off of it. They played with more energy and they had more of the ball and they had more of the chances after that.”

On CU's Defensive Play
“I think for the most part, they [the defense] has been good. I don't know that Kate [Scheele] has had to make a lot of saves. I think for the most part, they did good. They've done well. Having said that, defending is passing on the back and staying connected to the midfield and I don't think we did a very good job of that today. The pure defending was fine but passing on the back was average and our set pieces were average. We scored off of one but everything else wasn't good enough.”

On Today's Win
“We won the game and that's always the most important thing. There's days when you play really well and you don't win and days when you play average and you do win so you just have to take the positives from that. We'll watch the film. When I watched the film of Colorado State, I thought we played better than we did live so I may be a little hyper critical right now. The play was fine, it was more of the focus and consistent determination that wasn't there.”

Colorado Midfielder Darcy Jerman

On Her Goal
“It [my goal] was a corner kick. It was a great ball by Kahlia [Hogg] and it's just a back post ball. It was a tap in, but even goals like that are important.”

On The Disappointments Of The Game
“It's disappointing. We had a lot of great chances. We're building great out of the back, we have a solid defense right now and had shutouts on both games [this weekend]. We just need that final piece.”

On This Weekend's Two Wins
“It's really important for us [to have these two wins]. It's the beginning of the season and we just want to build off of that. Two wins is exactly what we want and we're going to just keep going up from here.”

On CU's Defense
“We're really pleased [with the defense]. We've got some changes in the back here and there, but I think they're just trying to find who's going to be that four. we have a solid defense. We have vocal people back there, strong in the air, so it's great.”

On The Team's Lack Of Energy
“I think that it [the energy] was good in the beginning but it dropped off when we scored. We just need to work on our consistency, keeping and playing a full 90 minutes.”

On Northern Colorado's Almost Goal
“My heart dropped a little bit, but sometimes with a bit of luck, we got the ball back and we won. I think we deserved to win. We had the ball most of the game so, lucky for us.”
