CU-Bryant Quotes

September 19, 2014 | Soccer

Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez

General
“Scoring is the hardest thing to do in any sport, but especially in soccer. I felt that our goalkeeping was good. I thought our back four and the six players we play back there did very well. I thought the movement through the midfield was very good. Like I told the team, I don't know that we were enough cutting edge in the final third, for lack of a better term. We weren't decisive enough and we weren't instinctual enough to really start to get down to the nitty gritty. I knew we had good opportunities, we scored two goals. But, we know that we need to be better because we're not going to get all of these opportunities starting Sunday with a very good San Francisco Team.”

On Today's Game
“The play was good today. I don't care who you play. We played some teams in the spring and we struggled. It's women's soccer. They're on scholarship just like our players are and we have to realize that when Bryant comes in, they have a good coach and this is a big deal for them. We started well, but I felt that we got complacent. But, the flow of the play was pretty good. We just weren't enough in the final third.”

On Non-Conference Play
“We want to win so we're, for the most part, getting that done. I think we want to find more of a rhythm in what we're doing. I think we're getting closer, but we're not, we realize the challenges that are ahead, we're smart enough. Starting with, San Francisco is a very good team, they're 4-2-2, they're playing DU tonight, but they've played a tough schedule so far, went back east and had a decent result. So, we have to play better. But, I also think that we're a team that rises to the challenge. With Kansas, we rose to the challenge. With DU, we rose to the challenge. So, I expect the same thing on Sunday.”

On Upcoming Opponent San Francisco
“They're a tough team. They're well coached and they're a West Coast Conference team that right now is ranked third in the west region, for whatever rankings are worth. They're probably the second ranked team in the West Coast Conference right now and they have good teams in that conference. It will be like a Pac-12 game. I think it will be like a Sunday Pac-12 game where we're going to have to play better for longer stretches than we did today for sure.”

Colorado Forward Darcy Jerman

On Today's Win
“It was really hot playing out there, but it was good to get the win 2-0. Even though we had that late goal, we scored pretty early in the game and we're just looking to build as much as we can for next weekend.”

On The Non-Conference Games
“Even though we only scored two, everything else was looking great. Our defense was very solid; we're moving the ball around. It's a little difficult when there's ten people packing it in the box, but we're going to keep working on our finishing. We're going to work to score more goals, but I think it was a good result today.”

On Upcoming Pac-12 Play
“Games like this, you get maybe five or six chances a half [to score], but in the Pac-12, it's going to be one or two. So, we're just focusing on getting to the ones that we can now and in the Pac-12, really making it count.”

On Scoring Early
“It takes a little pressure off, but we need to keep working on keep playing after we score that first goal. We can't just sit and relax and I think we know that and we're going to keep working on that.”
